Bellara Lutare

Gender: Female

Class: Mage

Bellara is one of the first companions you encounter in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. A cheerful elven mage and member of the "Veil Jumpers," a group dedicated to exploring ancient elven ruins deep within the Arlathan Forest. Always friendly and encouraging, Bellara possesses an inquisitive mind but often struggles with her changing thoughts and emotions.

A passionate researcher, she spends countless hours studying relics and artifacts, sometimes neglecting rest. Bellara's vibrant energy and magical skills make her indispensable to the team, and her healing abilities are crucial in battles against dark forces.

Davrin

Race: Elf

Gender: Male

Class: Warrior

Davrin is an elven warrior and a devoted Grey Warden who joins the team a few chapters into the adventure. Always accompanied by Assan, a young gryphon, Davrin has a complex relationship with him. He is fervently dedicated to his oath and the virtues of his order, though his restraint can sometimes give the impression of aloofness.

With a natural talent for hunting creatures and a remarkable ability to train gryphons, Davrin is a strong fighter and a reliable team member, providing a realistic perspective and resilience in the face of danger.

Emmrich Volkarin

Race: Human

Gender: Male

Class: Mage

Emmrich is a human mage and necromancer who joins your team midway through the story. He belongs to the "Custodians of the Bereaved" - an organization that protects the living from the undead in the Grand Necropolis. Emmrich behaves like a true gentleman, surprising those who expect a darker nature from a necromancer.

A seasoned mage with vast experience in necromancy, Emmrich is older and wiser than others, bringing both powerful strength and an unwavering sense of decency to the team. His calm demeanor and deep knowledge of magical arts make him an invaluable ally in the fight against the undead.

Lace Harding

Race: Dwarf

Gender: Female

Class: Rogue

Harding, a jovial dwarf rogue, is one of the first characters you meet. As a scout with a talent for spotting danger, she maintains a positive outlook even in tough moments.

Returning from her appearance in Dragon Age: Inquisition, Harding now plays a more significant role in The Veilguard. She is known for her sharp wit and resilience, being a reliable ally ready for any threat looming over Thedas.

Lucanis Dellamorte

Race: Human

Gender: Male

Class: Rogue

Lucanis is a human rogue and master assassin who joins at the beginning of the game. Known as the "Demon of Virantium," he cooperates with the Antivan Crows, a deadly order of hired assassins. Despite his reputation, Lucanis is unexpectedly pleasant to talk to and has a sharp mind that often boosts the team's morale.

A master of his craft, Lucanis excels in stealth and precision. He also carries a unique heritage as the grandson of Katarina Dellamorte, the legendary First Talon of the Crows. His ability to act in the shadows and tackle dangerous tasks makes him indispensable.

Neve Gallus

Race: Human

Gender: Female

Class: Mage

Neve, a human mage with a keen detective mind, joins the team early in the game. She is a member of the "Shadow Dragons," a faction striving to dismantle the corrupt underground of Minrathous. Neve is reserved and has dry humor, guided by a strong moral compass.

Her detective skills and unwavering sense of justice make her a valued ally in fighting the darkness lurking in Thedas. While she rarely opens up to others, her commitment to helping people speaks of her deep compassion.

Taash

Race: Warrior

Gender: Female

Class: Warrior

Taash, a mighty qunari warrior, joins the team a few chapters in. Known for her fascination with dragons, she is an experienced hunter of these creatures, wielding powerful axes and possessing the ability to breathe fire.

With a straightforward and blunt personality, Taash doesn't hesitate to express her opinions most candidly. Her connections with the Lords of Fortune and experience in battling dragons add crucial combat potential to the team, adding both strength and an unforgettable presence to the story.

How Does the Romance System Work in Dragon Age: The Veilguard?

In Dragon Age: The Veilguard, romance is implemented through a flexible, inclusive approach: each of the seven companions is available for romantic relationships, regardless of the race or gender of the protagonist.

All characters are pansexual, meaning any player can engage in romance with them. However, unlike the "playersexual" approach (where NPCs change their orientation based on the player's character), companions in The Veilguard have their own personalities and stories that impact their romance, making each relationship unique and authentic.

Romantic relationships in The Veilguard are guided by an approval system, similar to previous Dragon Age games, where players build relationships by supporting a companion's values through dialogues, quests, and gifts.

The player can interact with companions at the base and gain approval by completing their personal tasks. If the player delays romance, companions may start developing romantic feelings for each other, adding a new dimension to interpersonal relationships and the possibility of polyamory.

Each romanceable character has a unique story and background, from the dwarf scout Lace Harding (known from Dragon Age: Inquisition) to newcomers like Taash and Emmrich with his skeletal companion. These diverse characters add depth to the story and enhance replayability.
