Unsupervised Science is one of the side quests in Control Resonant that takes you across Manhattan to shut down a series of underground testing facilities. The experiments are not immediately obvious because the facilities are located beneath the streets, while their map markers point to surface locations. This makes finding the entrances more difficult than simply following the objective marker.
There are six Testing Facilities in total, with one located in or around almost every major zone. After finding and shutting down all six experiments, you can enter the Threshold hidden inside the final facility and complete the quest. This control resonant unsupervised science guide covers all six locations, both puzzle types, their solutions, and the final Threshold sequence.

Control Resonant All Experiments: Testing Facility Locations
The first Testing Facility you encounter can provide a note containing coordinates for the other facilities, which adds their locations to your map. However, the map markers indicate the general surface area rather than the actual entrances. Since every facility is underground, you need to search for the specific entrance around the marked location.
The following control resonant testing facility locations cover all six experiments required for the Unsupervised Science quest.
Zone | Surface Landmark | Puzzle Type |
Downtown | Testing Facility Reade building, east of the zone | Soda Dispenser |
Central | Construction site east of the Patterned Factory | Power Core |
Evacuation Zone | Near the Survivalist's Bunker Fast Travel point | Soda Dispenser |
West Incursion Zone | South of the House of Mirrors | Soda Dispenser |
The Park | Northeast section of the zone, accessible through sewers | Power Core |
Unknown | Near the middle-west side of the Fast Travel point | Power Core |
These are the six control resonant all experiments locations you need to visit for the Unsupervised Science quest. The puzzle inside each facility belongs to one of two types: changing objects into Soda Dispensers or maintaining the correct power balance between Power Cores.
Downtown Testing Facility
The Downtown facility is inside the Testing Facility Reade building on the eastern side of the zone. The building is under construction, and Hiss enemies are present when you enter. After dealing with them, look around the building for the underground entrance.
The puzzle here introduces the Soda Dispenser mechanic. A terminal explains that the default state is set to Soda Dispenser, while several objects around the room can be picked up and placed in the central box.

Soda Dispenser Puzzle Solution
Your objective is to make the required objects become Soda Dispensers before placing them into the box. Yellow lines running through the room change the state of an object when you carry it across them.
You can move an object through one of the yellow lines and then jump to the other side to manipulate its state more efficiently. The whiteboard near the terminal also shows how the transformations work, so you can use it to understand the sequence if you lose track of an item's current state.
Once all the required objects have been converted into Soda Dispensers and placed correctly, the shutdown sequence will complete. You receive a Power Upgrade and A Note From Dr. Milbeck's Cardiologist.

Central Testing Facility
The Central facility is located east of the Patterned Factory, near the area where you encounter the Deserter Resonant. Look for the underground entrance around the construction site.
This facility uses the second puzzle type, which requires you to manually maintain a power balance for 60 seconds.
Power Core Puzzle Solution
There are four Power Cores in the room, with two initially charged. Start the shutdown process and watch the red lights on the inactive cores.
When a dead Power Core begins blinking, transfer the charge from one of the active cores into it. Continue moving the charge between the cores whenever another one requires power. You need to keep the system balanced for the full 60-second shutdown sequence.
After the timer is completed, the gate opens. Inside, you can collect a Power Upgrade and Notes From Dr. Puchalski.

Evacuation Zone Testing Facility
The Evacuation Zone facility is next to the Survivalist's Bunker Fast Travel point in the southern part of the zone. The entrance is easier to locate than some of the others because it is close to the fast travel point.
Inside, you will encounter another version of the Soda Dispenser puzzle. Carry the objects through the yellow lines to change their states until they become Soda Dispensers. When an object reaches the correct state, look for a box positioned within the same set of yellow lines and place it there. Repeat this process until all the required objects have been handled. Completing the shutdown rewards you with a Power Upgrade and the Testing Facility Coordinates file.

West Incursion Zone Testing Facility
The West Incursion Zone facility is located south of the House of Mirrors, in the second lane from the bottom of the map.
The puzzle is another Soda Dispenser variation, so the same basic strategy from Downtown and the Evacuation Zone applies. Move the objects through the yellow lines to change their states, making sure each required item becomes a Soda Dispenser before placing it in the appropriate box.
After completing the shutdown process, collect the Power Upgrade and Notes From Dr. Janson.
The Park Testing Facility
The Testing Facility in The Park is in the northeastern part of the zone. There are two sewer entrances that can take you to the facility. If you are progressing through the New Growth quest, you may already have a reason to visit this location.
The facility uses the Power Core puzzle rather than the Soda Dispenser system.
Start the shutdown and manually transfer power between the cores whenever the inactive ones begin blinking. Keep the charge moving for 60 seconds until the shutdown sequence is finished.
Once the timer ends, press the button to complete the shutdown. You can then collect the Emergency Hood accessory and Notes From Dr. Roth.

Unknown Testing Facility
The final facility is located in the Unknown region, close to the middle-west side of the Fast Travel point.
Inside, you will find another Power Core puzzle, but this one gives you five Power Cores to work with. The basic mechanic remains the same: watch for the red warning lights and transfer power from charged cores to the ones that require it.
Complete the shutdown sequence and collect the Firebreaker Goggles accessory and Notes From Dr. Grant.
Control Resonant Experiment Puzzle Solutions
There are two main puzzle types across all six facilities. These control resonant experiment puzzle solutions cover the basic mechanics you need to complete every Testing Facility.
Soda Dispenser Puzzle
The Soda Dispenser puzzles require you to manipulate objects until they reach the correct state. Carry an object through the yellow lines to change its state, then move it into the appropriate box once it becomes a Soda Dispenser.
The easiest way to handle these puzzles is to pay attention to the transformation pattern shown on the nearby whiteboard. You can also carry an object across one yellow line and reposition yourself before making another transformation, which can shorten the sequence.
This puzzle appears in Downtown, Evacuation Zone, and West Incursion Zone.

Power Core Puzzle
The Power Core experiments give you a limited number of cores, some of which begin charged while others are inactive. Once the shutdown starts, watch the inactive cores for their red blinking indicator.
When one starts blinking, transfer power from a charged core into it. Continue switching the charge between cores whenever necessary and maintain the system for 60 seconds.
This puzzle appears in Central, The Park, and Unknown. The Unknown facility is slightly different because it has five Power Cores instead of four.

Going Into the Threshold
After shutting down all six Testing Facilities, the Threshold opens inside the final facility in the Unknown region. It is located next to the room where you collected the Firebreaker Goggles.
Enter the Threshold and move forward until you reach the area with Janson written on the floor to the left and Puchalski written straight ahead. Taking the left path causes you to turn into a chair, while going straight causes you to turn into a telephone booth, so neither of these paths is the correct route.
Instead, go right and hit the board at the end of the path. Then take the left route to bring the electrical charge back from the Power Core. Return to the straight path and, when it splits, go left to use the charge on the dead Power Core.
Collect the materials from the room and return to the split. Continue straight until you find a corpse that you can interact with. Doing so completes the final part of the Unsupervised Science quest.
Unsupervised Science Rewards
Completing all six experiments and the final Threshold sequence gives you several unique rewards. The final completion rewards are:
- Dr. Grant's Final Report — File
- Untapped Scrunchie — Artifact Recipe
- Threshold Researcher — Achievement/Trophy
The six facilities also provide additional rewards along the way, including Power Upgrades, accessories, and research notes from the scientists connected to the experiments.
