How to Rescue Children in 99 Nights in the Forest

In 99 Nights in the Forest, you're not just trying to survive night after night in a creepy, dark forest — you're also uncovering the unsettling mystery of a deer-worshipping cult and the disappearance of four children, which led the authorities to close the forest to visitors.

The police never found any traces. Now it's your turn — along with four other desperate explorers — to search for the missing children. Our guide will show you how to find and rescue all the children in 99 Nights in the Forest.

Missing Children Bulletin Board

Right at the start of the game, near your campfire, you'll find a bulletin board with posters of the missing children. You'll need to search for four: Dino Kid, Kraken Kid, Squid Kid, and Koala Kid. Each child is hidden in a unique location where evil forces hold them captive.

How the Child Rescue System Works in 99 Nights in the Forest

Every time you reach a new campfire level, the opportunity to rescue one of the children becomes available. After interacting with the bulletin board, a red arrow appears at the top of the screen, indicating the direction of the child's last known location. If you have a compass, the direction will be saved, making your search easier.

Each rescue consists of four steps:

  • Reach the appropriate campfire level;
  • Find the location where the child is hiding;
  • Defeat the guards to obtain a colored key;
  • Open the cage and escort the child back to the camp.

How to Rescue Dino Kid in 99 Nights in the Forest

The first child you can rescue in 99 Nights in the Forest is Dino Kid. He can be found after reaching the third campfire level. He's hidden behind metal bars guarded by a pack of wolves with red collars.

To obtain the red key, you'll need to defeat these wolves using a spear, revolver, or weapons purchased from the fur trader. Open the cage, free the child, and return them to the camp. This will increase your "days lived" multiplier, accelerating your progress.

How to Rescue Kraken Kid in 99 Nights in the Forest

After reaching the fourth campfire level, Kraken Kid becomes available for rescue. The process is similar, but this time you'll face alpha wolves with blue collars.

Defeat them, take the blue key, and find the child's cage — usually marked with the same symbol but located elsewhere. Returning Kraken Kid to the camp will again increase your nights counter.

How to Rescue Squid Kid and Koala Kid in 99 Nights in the Forest

To rescue Squid Kid and Koala Kid, you need to reach the fifth campfire level and unlock the entire map. These two are guarded by the game's strongest enemies — bears. Each bear wears a collar matching the child's color: yellow for Squid Kid, black for Koala Kid.

Ordinary weapons won't help here — you'll need powerful tools like the Morning Star or a tactical shotgun. After defeating them, you'll obtain the keys to the children's rooms and free them, rescuing the last pair of children.

Pay Attention to Clues

The red arrow after interacting with the bulletin board gives a general direction, but other signs can help you pinpoint the location. Listen for distant cries or toy sounds — they can also indicate the children's whereabouts.

Children may leave traces: soft toys, T-shirts, shoes — items clearly not from the forest. Also, watch for strange shelters or glints in the dark — this might mean you're close.

It's better to conduct searches during the day. At night, everything becomes much more dangerous, especially if you're escorting a child. Before heading out, ensure your campfire is burning well, and your backpack has food supplies and light sources.
