ESL One Bangkok Playoffs: Meet the Eight Teams That Qualified

The three-day Group Stage of ESL One Bangkok has come to a close, filled with surprises, upsets, and draws. Ultimately, only eight teams have secured their spot in the next stage. Read on to find out which teams were eliminated and which ones made it through!

Four Teams Eliminated

Most of the teams eliminated early in the tournament were considered underdogs. BOOM Esports, for example, had just returned to the Tier 1 scene after a long period of struggle. Understandably, they are still finding their rhythm, especially in Group A, where they were up against strong teams like Team Falcons and Team Spirit.

Natus Vincere (NAVI) shares a similar story. Formerly PuckChamp's roster, the team is still trying to find stability. The newly formed lineup has yet to develop the necessary chemistry to perform at its best.

However, there were some surprises in Group B. Gaozu, a relatively new team of Chinese region all-stars, was eliminated despite high expectations from fans. M80, formerly beastcoast, also failed to make it through, disappointing many who hoped for a revitalized performance.

Eight Final Teams Preview

Below is a preview of the final eight teams of ESL One Bangkok. We detailed their performances during the Group Stage including their popular and most successful hero picks, among other information.

As expected, Team Falcons dominated Group A. Despite a recent underwhelming performance at BLAST Slam I, the Middle Eastern organization appears to be back on track. However, their performance in this Group Stage wasn’t as dominant as their peak form. They secured three wins and two draws, with the draws coming against AVULUS and BOOM Esports.

Falcons favorite picks during the Group Stage is Phoenix and Lina for the supports. In the carry position, we saw a lot of Skiter-Gyrocopter, a signature pick for the player, which sees a 100% winrate so far.

Although AVULUS is a new name in the scene, it has cemented quite a reputation in the professional scene. The team, led by well-known CIS captain, Sonneiko, brings a fresh yet intimidating force to the competition. The team hasn't lost a single series during ESL One Bangkok, securing four draws and one win.

AVULUS' top picks during the Group Stage is an offlane Dawnbreaker, offlane Dark Seer, and a Nyx Assassin position 4.

Team Spirit is one of the qualified teams in the ESL One Bangkok Playoffs. Since their reformation, adding new talents like Satanic and rue, the two-time TI-winning team has struggled to find consistency. While their Group Stage performance wasn’t stellar, it marked a notable improvement over their previous run, and many expect them to continue growing stronger.

Spirit only lost a series to Team Falcons, securing draws and wins in their other matches. During the Group Stage, their go-to pick was Hoodwink, a versatile hero used in both the fourth and fifth positions. Dawnbreaker and Batrider also emerged as key picks for the team.

As one of the biggest underdogs in ESL One Bangkok, Shopify Rebellion must have been thrilled to secure their spot in the Playoffs. The North American team now features a diverse mix of talent with names from Southeast Asia, South America, Europe, and North America itself playing under a banner.

During the ESL One Bangkok Group Stage, Shopify Rebellion narrowly advanced from Group A, but their performance was still impressive. They secured a win against NAVI and suffered just one loss to Team Falcons. During the Group Stage, SR favored Magnus and Ogre Magi, with the two heroes often paired in the offlane, boasting an undefeated 100% win rate together.

PARIVISION, featuring former Cloud9 players, has shown impressive form in recent tournaments and certainly lived up to expectations during the ESL One Bangkok Group Stage. The team boasted the highest winrate, winning every series except for one, which ended in a draw against BetBoom Team.

Heading into the ESL One Bangkok Playoffs, PARIVISION is undoubtedly a strong favorite. Their standout heroes were Batrider and Beastmaster, both of which maintained a 100% winrate.

BetBoom Team has a lot to prove after their victory at BLAST Slam I. Was it a fluke, or were the stand-ins a key factor in their success? While the team is undeniably one of the strongest in the tier-one scene, the question remains: can they secure another victory this time?

The CIS powerhouse performed well in the Group Stage, although they fell just short of securing the top spot in Group B, behind PARIVISION by one victory. Despite not clinching the top seed, they remain a formidable force.

BetBoom's standout picks in the Group Stage included a position five Lich and a mid Invoker, both of which maintained a 100% winrate. They also frequently picked Muerta in the fourth position, boasting an impressive 75% winrate.

As Nigma Galaxy qualified for the ESL One Bangkok Playoffs, cheers erupted from fans around the world. After two years, the beloved Nigma roster finally makes it to the Playoffs again, their last appearance being at ESL One Kuala Lumpur. This marks a significant moment for KuroKy and the team, and many are hoping to see the all-stars shine once more.

While Nigma didn't secure a single series win, they managed to survive Group B with several draws and only one loss to PARIVISION. Their go-to pick during the Group Stage was Ogre Magi, selected six times with a 50% winrate.

Last but not least, Team Liquid. The reigning TI champion has faced challenges ever since the departure of key player 33. However, fans are hopeful for their growth and improvement, and many believe Liquid could adapt and perform well in the Playoffs.

During the Group Stage, Team Liquid suffered two losses to PARIVISION and BetBoom Team. However, their win against M80 secured them a top 4 finish in Group B, allowing them to narrowly avoid elimination. Liquid's draft strategy was highly versatile, frequently swapping and utilizing different heroes. The only heroes they consistently picked were Phoenix, Tiny, and Beastmaster, each chosen three times.
