The transition of the professional scene to CS2 and the MR12 match format has shortened the average duration of games compared to CS:GO, where the MR15 system was used. Now, teams only need to win 13 rounds instead of 16. However, even with these changes, we can still witness thrilling and lengthy matches. In this article, we will discuss the longest matches in the history of CS2 and CS:GO.
Top 10 CS2 Maps with the Most Rounds Played
On September 11, during the group stage match of ESL Pro League Season 20 between M80 and Fnatic, a historic event took place. The teams were unable to determine a winner in the initial 24 rounds on the Anubis map, pushing the game into overtime. To determine the victor, the teams had to play through eight series of additional rounds.
In the end, M80 and Fnatic played 71 rounds, setting a new record for the number of rounds played on a single map in CS2 history. They broke the previous record of 64 rounds, which was set by Rhyno and Zero Tenacity on Vertigo during the Elisa Invitational Fall 2024.

The Longest Maps in CS:GO
The map with the most rounds played in CS:GO history took place during the group stage of the ESL UK Premiership Spring 2015. The record was set by teams XENEX and exceL, and the historic event took place on the Inferno map. Despite XENEX's dominance on the defense side, they completely faltered on the offense. The map winner had to be decided in overtime, which lasted 58 rounds. On that day, XENEX came out on top.
Despite the intensity of the match—where the second map also required additional rounds—the series ended 2-0 in favor of XENEX. Overall, the teams played 127 rounds during the match. As a result, XENEX went on to become the champion of the tournament.
- Team XENEX vs. exceL eSports at ESL UK Premiership 2015 - 88 rounds (Online)
- DenDD vs. PixelFIRE Gaming at PGL Regional Minor Championship 2016 - 79 rounds (LAN)
- GUNRUNNERS vs. eSuba at Sazka eLeague Spring 2020 - 72 rounds (Online)
The Counter-Strike 2 record for the number of rounds played on a single map is still far from the CS:GO record set by XENEX and exceL back in 2015. However, the unforgettable Anubis match between M80 and Fnatic brings hope that we might witness more of such epic clashes in the future. The CS:GO record is bound to be broken!
