- Pokémon once classified as ‘Unknown’ region (Meltan/Melmetal) counted within Gen VII; Gen IX totals do not include forms

Missing Species by Region
Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Unova & Kalos: 100% of species released
All Pokémon originally introduced in Generation I, II, III, V, and VI are fully available in Pokémon GO. That includes all regional forms and starters involved (e.g. Kanto Alola forms, Galarian forms that were retroactively added).

Sinnoh (Gen IV): 3 species pending
Out of the 107 Pokemon in Gen IV, 104 are available; three remain unreleased, most likely “SP-class” event Mythicals. Origins forms of Dialga and Palkia (introduced 17 Nov 2023) showed Niantic’s shift toward full Sinnoh coverage; those missing vets could debut eventually.
Alola / Unknown (Gen VII): 8 species/form variants pending
While 80 of 88 entries are live, the only currently unreleased are special forms/type shifts: one Oricorio form and two rarer Tapu/Kukui variants still awaiting release. Meltan and Melmetal count within Gen VII’s introduction (they were released early in 2018); any regional Paradox forms remain future content.
Galar / Hisui (Gen VIII): 62 species of 96 released
- 6 Hisuian species including forms like Hisuian Electrode, Linoone (Galar)
- 56 Galar species, debuting during “Max Out” and 2024-25 events
- 34 Galar species are still awaited, primarily regional evolutions of late-Gen 8 and Paradox Pokémon.

Paldea (Gen IX): 53 of 120 released
Niantic has completed approximately 44% of the Paldea Pokédex. Below is a snapshot of currently available Paldea Pokémon, with their first‐wave release order .

Paldea Pokédex – Available VS Awaited
Pokémon Type | Status as Aug 4 2025 |
Legendary / Mythical (e.g. Enamorus, Butterfree-G-max) | Released |
Starter lines (Sprigatito, Fuecoco, Quaxly + final evolutions) | Released |
Fully evolved fauna lines (Tandemaus→Maushold, Nymble→Lokix, etc.) | Released |
Low-tier middle species (e.g. Fidough, Shroodle) | Released |
Remaining ~67 Paldea species | Scheduled via future events |
Niantic’s rollout mirrors past regional expansions: roughly 40–50% launched in the first month after regional launch (since 18 Aug 2023) and the rest drip-fed over 6-9 months. Expect the Paldea Pokédex to surpass 80 % coverage by mid-2026 following events like the Paldea Game Pass DLC and Scarlet/Violet tie-ins.

How the Pokémon GO Region System Works
As stated on their Regions page, Pokémon GO classifies Pokémon into the following up to ten regions: Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, Kalos, Alola, Galar, Hisui, and Paldea. Forms like Dialga Origin and Palkia Origin are considered to be over Sinnoh, hence, are still part of Sinnoh region coverage.
