One of the best years in a while: Brazilian Pro Scene Wrap Up 2024

The Brazilian CS2 scene had a solid year in 2024, marked by steady progress rather than groundbreaking victories. While there weren’t major titles won on the global stage, several teams consistently performed well, new talents emerged, and many rosters became more stable. With numerous squads in the top 50 of the world rankings, the region demonstrated resilience and promise for the future.

FURIA

FURIA had a challenging start to the year, with poor results in the first half. However, a key roster change in the summer brought Scoutz into the team, transforming their performance. The second half of the year saw FURIA reaching the semifinals of IEM Rio 2024 and finishing 9th-11th at the Perfect World Shanghai Major. Their close match against FaZe in the Major kept them just shy of the playoffs. The team’s improvement in the latter half of the year highlights their potential for 2025.

MIBR

MIBR had a mixed year, initially missing out on the first Major of 2024. Structural changes, including appointing drop as captain, started to pay off mid-year. They won the ESL Challenger Melbourne, albeit against weaker competition, but it was still a morale booster. A roster change saw Lucaozy joining after the team then reached the semifinals of ESL Pro League. With him MIBR finished 9th-11th at the Shanghai Major, losing to MOUZ. MIBR’s progress indicates a promising trajectory, especially with their revamped lineup.

paiN

paiN, led by experienced captain biguzera, had an excellent year. With just one roster change, they maintained their youthful core and delivered consistent results. Early in the year, they won the GET Rio 2024, earning $100,000. Their near-playoff run at the Copenhagen Major, where they narrowly lost to eventual champions NAVI, showcased their potential. Later, they placed 3rd-4th at ESL Challenger Katowice and made it to the Elimination Stage of the Shanghai Major. At an average team age of just 22, paiN’s upward trend is one to watch closely.

Imperial

Imperial had a steady year without major triumphs. They reached the Elimination Stage at the first Major and placed second at GET Rio, earning $50,000. They also made the playoffs of ESL Pro League Season 20. More importantly, Imperial qualified for both Majors, securing sticker revenue to support their continued operation. While they didn’t deliver groundbreaking results, their stability provides a foundation for the future in a scene where long-term survival is often a challenge.

Other Teams

Several other Brazilian teams deserve mention, including RED Canids and Legacy. RED Canids performed well locally but fell short on the international stage, failing to qualify for either Major. However, Legacy, playing under a Brazilian roster in North America, managed to qualify for the first Major and secure stickers—a crucial achievement for smaller teams. Both teams announced roster changes aimed at revitalization, signaling potential for growth in 2025.

Beyond these notable squads, Brazil is home to more than 30 competitive teams regularly playing at a reasonable level. These teams provide a vital pipeline for nurturing young talent, ensuring the region’s long-term competitiveness.

2024 was a standout year for Brazil. Teams like FURIA, paiN, MIBR, Imperial, and Legacy all qualified for at least one Major, proving the strength of the region. Many of these rosters combine young talent with experienced veterans—a formula that has brought steady success and growth.

Several organizations, including MIBR, 9z, RED Canids, paiN, and Galorys, also invested in academy teams with Brazilian players, ensuring a bright future for the scene. These teams are developing the next generation of stars, keeping the pipeline of talent strong.

However, the lack of Brazilian players in North American or European teams is a concern, as it could help the region grow further by fostering international connections. Despite this, the progress and potential of Brazilian Counter-Strike in 2024 have set a solid foundation for an exciting future.

While 2024 wasn’t a year of dominance for Brazilian Counter-Strike, it was a year of steady progress and important achievements. Teams like FURIA and MIBR showed resilience, paiN Gaming highlighted the potential of youth, and even smaller teams kept the scene active and vibrant. The future looks bright for Brazil, with a growing pool of talent and a foundation built on consistency and ambition. 2025 could see the region reaching new heights.
