Lamenter Boss Guide

Lamenter Boss Guide

Although some bosses in Elden Ring Shadow of Erdtree are optional, fighting them can still be an enjoyable experience that enhances your gameplay and skills, while also providing additional rewards. Among the many bosses, it's worth mentioning Lamenter, whose difficulty depends on your skills in quick and cautious attacks.

This small, agile boss uses clones during the battle, which is often the main problem for many players. In this guide for Lamenter, we'll explore where to find him and how to defeat him.

Where to Find the Optional Boss Lamenter

To reach Lamenter, start from the Castle Front grace site. Head southeast until you reach the Pillar Path grace site. Continue through Dragon’s Pit and then exit via Dragon’s Pit Terminus. Head east until you encounter water, then turn south.

Upon reaching the Grand Altar of Dragon Communication, move west and then north. Pass through Charo’s Hidden Grave and move northwest to find the Lamenter’s Gaol grace site inside a cave.

Overview of Lamenter Boss

Facing Lamenter is a relatively moderate challenge. This optional boss from the Elden Ring’s Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC is not very fast, although his attacks can seem sharp at times. Unlike most bosses, the fight with Lamenter involves only one phase, making his moves somewhat easier to predict, and his move set is quite modest compared to others.

However, any boss in Elden Ring can be dangerous if not met with proper preparation and caution.

Battle with Lamenter and Tips

While exploring the gaol, a golden fog wall will indicate the location of the arena with Lamenter. The main challenge in this fight is Lamenter’s ability to summon clones and perform an attack that can instantly kill you if you don’t destroy enough clones in time. Although Lamenter is not dangerous on his own, focusing only on him during the fight can lead to a quick defeat.

Bring weapons or spells capable of controlling the crowd of boss clones. Long-range melee weapons like the Rivers of Blood katana or Loretta’s War Sickle halberd can effectively cut through the clones. These clones have no health bar and can be destroyed with one hit, so the range and speed of your weapon are crucial to dealing with the clones quickly.

Certain spells or Ashes of War can also help in fighting the clones. The massive gravitational aura from the unique Starscourge Greatsword skill is particularly effective. Magic that deals damage over a large area or affects multiple targets simultaneously can be an excellent strategy for various builds. Avoid casting long spells or status effects on the clones, as weapon strikes are more effective for their elimination.

Another viable strategy is to summon allies through spirit ashes. Having one or more spirits fighting alongside you can significantly simplify the fight by destroying several clones at once. While some may consider this approach less challenging, it offers a straightforward solution for those struggling with this encounter.

The most difficult aspect of this fight is the timely destruction of the clones, which attack from a distance, unlike the main boss who approaches to attack.

You needn't necessarily super strong gear and armor to defeat this boss. The key is to react promptly to the clones and then switch to the main target. However, this boss has a few more attack types, but they are very few, so you won't need to memorize overly complex move sets.

Lamenter Boss Attack Types

Lamenter himself could be more agile but delivers sharp quick strikes. At close range, Lamenter performs a series of rapid blows, dodging your counterattacks. Dodge sideways during these strikes to get an opportunity to land one or two hits yourself.

When the boss's health drops to about 80%, or you frequently pressure him, he disappears in black smoke before reappearing again, summoning seven clones. Use crowd control abilities to destroy each clone with one hit. This is the boss's main dangerous ability that can be fatal for you.

If all seven clones remain until Lamenter recalls them, your character will instantly die. Therefore, it's important to destroy them as quickly as possible, and having cool gear won't save you from death. As mentioned earlier, you can use spirits to help destroy the clones faster.

Another attack type is a flying strike, where Lamenter jumps towards your character, aiming a blow at the ground where you stand. Dodge left or right before the strike hits the ground.

When standing far from you, Lamenter summons a swirling dark magic orb that follows your character before disappearing. This attack often follows the summoning of clones. Since these spheres are quite slow, they can be easily avoided by rolling or simply running.

However, if there are clones on the field, the situation becomes more complicated as you may spend time avoiding the sphere while the clones continue to exist.

Conclusion

In summary, Lamenter is definitely not the hardest boss in the Elden Ring DLC. However, if you underestimate his clone mechanics and fail to destroy them in time, it will become a problem for you.

Defeating Lamenter will reward you with 160,000 runes and the Lamenter's Mask, an item that amusingly changes the shape of your character's head. This amusing item serves as a trophy and a simple element of fun for those who managed to defeat this boss in Elden Ring's Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC.
