How the skins renting system works in CS2

On the night of May 24, the developers released a major update for Counter-Strike 2. In addition to reworking the Vertigo map, making changes to the economy, and various game mechanics, Valve added the ability to rent skins. In this article, we will detail how the skin rental system works in CS2.

CS2 Skins Rental Functionality

Players can now use a key to forgo receiving a random item from a collection and instead unlock access to all skins, except knives, for a week. After the week expires, the rented weapon reverts to its standard version. Rented skins cannot be traded or sold on the Steam marketplace. They also do not support the StatTrak technology. Currently, only skins from the "Kilowatt" case can be rented.

The rental cost is equal to the cost of opening a case — €2.35. If you choose to rent, the case will still be considered opened and will disappear from your inventory. After a week, the rental period will expire, leaving you with only memories.

Calling all Kilowatt Collection fans! Now, when you open a Kilowatt case with a key, you'll be given the option to rent the whole collection for a week (excluding the rare special item) instead of keeping a single item. You can play with the weapons as much as you like during that week, but they can't be modified by stickers or nametags.

How to Rent CS2 Skins

To rent skins in CS2, follow these steps:

  1. Ensure that you have a "Kilowatt" case in your inventory. Buy it on the Steam marketplace or obtain it through gameplay.
  2. Purchase a key to open the "Kilowatt" case.
  3. Activate the key.
  4. The game will offer two options: "Open Case" or "Open for Rent." Choose "Open for Rent."
  5. The collection will be available to you for seven days.

In addition to the ability to rent skins from the "Kilowatt" case, Valve made changes to CS2 maps. The most significant changes affected point A on Vertigo. The developers also made adjustments to the game's economy.
