The Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024: American RMR concluded on November 15th after four intense days of competition. The event determined the seven teams from the Americas that will compete in the Opening Stage of the Major alongside teams from the Asian RMR. Here’s a breakdown of the results.
3:0 Results
MIBR
MIBR delivered an outstanding performance, going undefeated in the Swiss Stage and earning a direct spot in the Major. They didn’t drop a single map, even against tougher opponents like Complexity in their 2:0 game. This achievement marks their return to the Majors since PGL Major Antwerp 2022, a significant milestone for the Brazilian organization. Lucas "Lucaozy" Neves, their new addition, played a crucial role in solidifying their roster after some mid-season struggles.
Wildcard
Wildcard shocked the scene by sweeping through the Swiss Stage without dropping a match. They defeated Liquid, paiN, and 9z, showcasing remarkable composure and teamwork. This will be Wildcard’s first-ever Major appearance, a massive accomplishment for Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz, who revitalized the team from ESEA Advanced. This Major marks his return to the grand stage since PGL Major Stockholm 2021.
3:1 Results
Liquid
Liquid recovered well after an early BO1 loss to Wildcard. They secured their place at the Major by defeating KRÜ, BOSS, and Imperial. This result is a relief for the North American powerhouse after missing the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024. Roland "ultimate" Tomkowiak finally regained form, contributing significantly with a 6.9 rating.
Complexity
paiN
paiN faced stiff competition but managed to qualify with a 3:1 record. Their only loss came against Wildcard, but they outplayed Nouns, Imperial, and 9z. The team’s consistency and growth throughout the season were evident in their strong showing.

3:2 Results
Imperial
Imperial had a rocky start, losing to MIBR and paiN early on. However, they demonstrated resilience and clinched their spot as the highest-seeded 3:2 team. This qualification reinforces Imperial’s standing as a consistent Major contender.
FURIA
Biggest Disappointments
M80
Despite promising results earlier this year, M80 failed to live up to expectations. An initial loss to BOSS, one of the weakest teams at the event, put them on the back foot. Although they managed a comeback to the tiebreaker stage, their journey ended there.
9z
9z started strong with wins over RED Canids and Legacy but faltered in the BO3 matches. Consecutive losses to Wildcard, paiN, and FURIA with 0:2 scores highlighted their struggles against higher-tier teams.
MVP and EVPs
MVP: exit (MIBR)
Raphael "exit" Lacerda was a crucial part of MIBR’s flawless 3:0 run at the American RMR. While his stats might not be the flashiest, his consistency throughout the event stood out. He maintained a solid presence in critical moments, contributing a 6.7 rating, 0.86 kills per round, and an average damage per round of 81. Exit’s reliable performance helped MIBR return to the Major stage for the first time since 2022, proving his value as a steady force in the team.
EVP: EliGE (Complexity)
EliGE continues to demonstrate why he is one of the best in the game. With a standout rating of 7.2, 0.91 kills per round, and a staggering 99 average damage per round, EliGE was instrumental in Complexity’s success. EliGE's performance was the driving force behind Complexity’s qualification for the Major.
EVP: nqz (paiN)
Lucas "nqz" Soares proved once again why he’s one of the most promising young talents in the scene. The 19-year-old AWPer delivered a rating of 7.1, along with 0.86 kills per round and 82 average damage per round. This marks nqz's third Major, a remarkable achievement for such a young player.
EVP: ultimate (Liquid)
Ultimate had struggled with form in recent months, but he made a strong comeback at the American RMR. With a 6.9 rating, 0.79 kills per round, and 86 average damage per round, he played a key role in Liquid’s recovery after their initial loss to Wildcard. His improved performance was a significant factor in Liquid securing their spot at the Major after a disappointing absence earlier in the year.
Expert's take: peacemaker
To provide deeper insights into the results and key moments of the Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024: American RMR, we reached out to Luis "peacemaker" Tadeu. With a rich history as the former coach of Imperial, Complexity, and HEROIC:
Do you like the seven teams that made it to the Major from America in the end?
I think we got the 4 most prepared teams from Brazil, Liquid and Complexity are also obvious choices and I honestly would’ve preferred M80 over Wildcard representing NA.
How many of them have the potential to reach the Elimination stage or even the playoffs?
I think Liquid and paiN will certainly make it to Elimination Stage, when it comes to FURIA it really comes down to these next 2 weeks of practice and if they are able to fix a few things in regards to their map pool. MIBR is also a strong candidate but could feel pressure and the rest I have my doubts
How would you assess the performance from Wildcard?
I think Sonic really stepped up individually and have done an incredible job at the RMR, stanislaw called really great T sides and made use of his experience and the fact there was no studio or any pressure also allowed them to feel more comfortable.
Will the failures at the RMR from M80 and 9z lead to the roster changes?
In my opinion M80 should get Jeorge from Nouns or Brehze from NRG if they're willing to move & 9z in my opinion at least buda has to go and they should also get another Coach in my opinion; nothing against tge I just think they reached their max potential under his guidance and they should try and get someone else with different ideas and maybe more experienced.
Who is coming to the Major as the strongest Brazilian team?
Even though MIBR went 3-0, I still think paiN is way more solid within their playbook, style and map pool. Also the individuals are way more consistent, I think that under pressure this MIBR roster might crumble a little bit and FURIA showed way too many weaknesses within their map pool for me to believe in them.
FURIA was on the verge of missing the Major, how will this impact them from the mental side at the Major? Will they get more confidence or be stressed?
I dont think it's gonna affect their mentality that much as they are experienced enough and already publicly addressed some of the problems they had at the RMR which is the first part right? Now it comes down to in 2 weeks being able to actually fix some of that and prove that IEM Rio wasn't a fluke performance from them.
Snow is making great progress this year and has now reached his first Major. Can we consider him as the next big Brazilian star?
Absolutely, not the super star thats gonna pull miracles such as coldzera’s graffiti or make a lot of impactful plays like fer/FalleN used to do at their primes but I think he's very smart, consistent and rarely commits mistakes, he's a very special player and has a bright future.
