Everything We Know About the New Valorant Map Corrode

It's been almost a year since the release of the latest new map, Abyss, in Valorant, as it became available after patch 8.11 in June 2024. Since then, a lot of new content has been added to the game, including three agents, Tejo, Vyse, Waylay, and various skins. But the gaming community was eagerly awaiting a new map, and it seems that the wait is finally over. Recently, the first mentions of a new location, whose name is still unknown, began to appear online, and we have collected them all below.

First mentions of the new location

The new map was first announced on May 30 this year, when the developers released one of their regular community updates. In a video dedicated to the game's fifth anniversary, various Riot employees, such as producers, game writers, and others, talked about the future of Valorant. Among all the changes and innovations, including the game's transition to Unreal Engine 5, there was a small announcement of a new map.

At 2:55 in the video, Riot employees – game designer Ryan Cousart and product manager Tiffy Tsay announced a new map, but did not reveal its name. In a short clip, you can see several places and corners of the new location, as well as a separate splash screen that will serve as the main teaser.

Map name

A few days later, information about the name of the new location appeared online. According to data miner VALORANT Leaks & News, the new map will be called Corrode. This name directly corresponds to the appearance of the location, as corrosion eats away at metal, just as radium has distorted the castle in France. Read more about the map design below.

Map design and layout

Each map in Valorant is analogous to a real-life location, and the new map is no exception. As it became known later thanks to another announcement in the game's lore, the events at the new location will take place near or on the island of Mont-Saint-Michel itself, which is a municipality near Paris in France. This is what it looks like in reality:

As you can see in the short teaser and in the image, the new map will have an interesting medieval design that directly references this location. In addition, a castle can be seen in the background of the trailer, which also suggests that the new location will be a replica of Mont Saint-Michel.

The developers have also published several artworks that were created during the development of the map itself. In them, as in the video teaser, you can see the medieval design of the buildings and the sharp towers with conical roofs characteristic of that time.

Location features

Most maps available in Valorant have their own features, such as portals, zip lines, and the absence of text, and the new location is no exception. But so far, little is known about them. According to data miner Mike | Valorant Leaks & News, there will be caves on the new map. However, it is still unclear whether they will be an additional underground level extending throughout the entire location, or perhaps just a passageway.

According to the developers themselves, another feature of the map is that it will radically change players' perceptions of Spike placement points. They will be much more complex than on other maps and will require a new approach.

The new map is designed to shake up and overturn your ideas about capturing and holding sites. All of them will be multi-layered and complex, and the use of abilities will be very important.

Below you can see what point B will look like on the new map, which Riot published in the second teaser.

Release date of the new map

The release date and location name are still unknown. However, in a few days, there will be an exhibition match where the map will be officially announced. Before the grand final of Masters Bangkok 2025, there will be an exhibition match featuring famous streamers and media personalities. That is when Riot Games will announce the name and release date of the new location. For more details, follow the tournament and all related news at the link.
