LoL players suggest boycott following Hextech Chest controversy

League of Legends players have expressed their anger at Riot Games over the controversy surrounding the removal of free Hextech Chests. So much to the point one player suggested that players should boycott the game entirely until the matter is resolved -- since the launch of the new season players have been unable to earn free chests as part of a new system to replace the old one.

Spending money on League of Legends isn't for everyone, whether you don't have the money to or simply deem them overpriced, LoL used to provide great alternatives for players who don't want to spend money on the game. The previous Hextech Chest system allowed for players to occasionally earn free chests, whether that be through missions, playtime, or via the battlepass, there were several ways to get free cosmetics in League of Legends.

With the introduction to the new League of Legends season, Riot decided they were going to solve the problem with Hextech Chests, by simply removing them as an unlockable option for players, which did not go down well with the community. In a Reddit thread, players expressed their disappointment that you can no longer earn free chests in League of Legends. You can get Hextech Chests in LoL still, but they are stuck behind the shop, which removes the enjoyment free-to-play players got out of the system.

"I bought many skins and passes over the years but now it is time to boycott. since they only care about money to the point they remove a simple chest every now and then" one player added, who wants players to boycott players spending money on League of Legends. The original poster expressed their sadness as they were a player that had collected over 77 Hextech chests along with orbs so that they can do their yearly event of opening them all in one go.

It's sad, and it's the worst decision they could have made in the entire history of League. I hope they regret it and bring back the weekly chests with mastery, like before, so I can do the ritual of opening the chests every year, but for now, this will be the last." said the original poster.
