Huge changes coming to Dota 2 with new mechanics and balance — patch 7.36

On 23 May, Valve released the long-awaited patch 7.36 for Dota 2, which brought changes not only to the balance of the characters and items themselves, but also added new mechanics that will make the game more interesting.

Innate abilities

From now on, each Dota hero has a so-called ‘innate ability’ — an ability that the hero has from the beginning to the end of the game. For example, Dawnbreaker now completely clears the fog of war on the map at sunrise, allowing the allied team to see everything that is happening without obstacles for a short time. Although this mechanic cannot be called completely new, as it already existed to some extent before this patch. For example, the Mischief ability in Monkey King, which allows you to transform and disguise yourself as an object on the map, is an innate ability.

However, this mechanic doesn't necessarily add a new ability to the characters, it can also give an additional level to the ability. That is, now the hero will have an ability of five levels instead of four. An example is Kunkka with his Tidebringer, which is available from the very beginning of the game and can pump this asset 4 more times.

Facets

Each player has the opportunity to customise their character to their own playstyle, giving their abilities a special effect that enhances it. For example, Doom can choose a facet that replaces the 70-second recharge of Devour with two charges of the ability and a 90-second recovery time. Or you can choose a different facet — the hero can sell items for 90% of their value, but the redemption value will be increased by 15%.

Thanks to the facets, you can adapt to a specific situation related to the enemy's set of heroes or to your vision. You can change them only before the start of the game, as well as at the planning stage. You can view the facets on the hero's page, above his abilities, or above the icon of his innate ability. Enemy facets are not revealed to the opposing team until the start of the game.

The most interesting among the general changes in the update

  • The planning stage has been increased by 15/10/5 seconds for the first/second/third week after the game update.
  • Now, the glyph of fortifications is not updated after the first tower of the third category is destroyed. Instead, the glyph is updated after the first swordsman barracks falls.
  • Spell radius increase now applies to all auras and peripheral damage sources.
  • When finishing off an allied hero, the hero who cast the effect that allowed you to finish off your ally will receive additional experience.
  • The enemy team now sees mana streaks over players.
  • A new feature with permanent range indicators has been added to the Dota 2 labs, which allows you to activate only one indicator at a time: experience, attack range or ability, etc.
  • The war fog of both sides correctly displays team members whose visibility is isolated.
  • The rules for Ability Draft mode related to facets and innate abilities have been added.

Changes to items

Roshan's Banner

  • Font of Avernus — the hero respawns 10% faster.

Facets:

  • The Quickening — after the death of creatures within a radius of 900 from the hero, he receives a 0.2-second charge reduction. If the heroes die, the charge is reduced by 4 seconds.
  • Aphotic Shield — the damage from the barrier explosion is increased by 50%, but does not deal instant damage. Instead, when enemies hit the barrier, all enemies within a radius of 675 receive 80% of the damage dealt in their direction.

Alchemist

Innate ability:

  • Greevil's Greed — remains innate, and cannot be upgraded.

Edge:

  • Seed Money — receives 250 extra gold at the beginning of the game

  • Call out — increases additional armour by 5. Provoked enemies gain +45 to their attack speed for the duration of the effect.

  • Ichor pf Nyctashs — distributes attributes evenly during the duration of the boost.

Facets:

  • Dream Stalker — Nightmare gains 40/50/60/70 to attack speed when attacking creatures while sleeping.
  • Sleepwalk — makes the ability vectorial, under the influence of the ability move in the specified direction.

  • Smoledering resin — attacks impose a debuff that deals 15% attack damage once per second for two.

  • Stoked — if the hero uses abilities on the enemy that make him move, the hero will receive +10 to movement speed and +8% to the power of abilities.

  • MENTAL FORTITUDE — the hero's intelligence cannot be lower than his other attributes. If this happens, the hero gains a bonus to Intelligence.

  • HEART OF BATTLE — base movement speed is reduced to 275, but gains 8% of the speed of all heroes within a radius of 900.

Dark Willow

An innate ability:

  • PIXIE DUST — whenever the heroine is in a state where she cannot be targeted, she gains +100 to regeneration.

Facets:

  • THROWING SHADE — under the influence of Shadow Realm, the heroine gives an aura of damage increase by 25%.

Disruptor

An innate ability:

  • ELECTROMAGNETIC REPULSE — whenever the hero takes more than 250 damage, units within 400 radius are repelled.

Facets:

  • THUNDERSTORM — Thinderstrike deals damage to all enemies in the Kinetic Field area.
  • KINETIC FENCE — replaces Kinetic Field with Kinetic Fence. The wall is created after a delay of 0.75 seconds.

Doom

An innate ability:

  • LVL? PAIN — the hero deals 10% more damage with attacks on enemies whose level is lower than his.

Facets:

  • GLUTTONY — replaces the 70-second recharge of Devour with two charges.

  • FROSTBOUND — if a Chain Frost projectile cannot find a second target, it will circle around the first one for a while until the second one appears.
  • GROWING COLD — increases the number of bounces and adds them for killing creeps or heroes.

Innate ability:

  • Feast is now an innate ability.

Facets:

  • CORPSE EATER — Gains +2 health for each unit killed.
  • UNFETTERED — Rage has been replaced with the new Unfettered ability, which gives 50% resistance to magic and effects, and also gives strong dispel.

  • UNBEARABLE — Spirit Bear attacks heal Lone Druid, but not vice versa. In bear form, he gains additional armour, losing his base attack time.

An innate ability:

  • SELEMENE'S FAVOUR — Luna gains +20% to the range of spells cast at night

Edge:

  • LUNAR ORBIT — Reduces incoming damage from Moon Glaives.
  • MOONSTORM — gives Luna extra attack power when Lucent Beam hits a hero, lasts for 15 seconds.

  • VICTORY FEAST — the hero is healed by 20% if an enemy dies in the Arena Of Blood.
  • BLOOD SPORT — enemies lose visibility outside the arena.

  • Mana Shield is now an innate ability.

Edges:

  • ENGORGED — Mystic Snake ability deals additional physical damage for the next three attacks.
  • MANA PACT is an active ability that absorbs mana, giving Medusa a bonus to attack speed.

  • ACCUMULATION — instead of the full increase in attributes per level, the hero receives 50% of the increase every half level.

Facets:

  • EBB — the main attribute is agility, Adaptive Strike pushes the target away.
  • FLOW — the main attribute is strength, the ratio of strength to agility speeds up the recharge of abilities.

Muerta

An innate ability:

  • SUPERNATURAL — Muerta can always attack incorporeal creatures and attacks in incorporeal form.

Facets:

  • DANCE OF THE DEAD — when the hero dies within 200 of The Calling, the duration is updated, and the circle expands by 100 units and gains an additional ghost.
  • OFRENDA — the heroine creates an altar near which she is reborn and destroys it.

Naga Siren

An innate ability:

  • EELSKIN — Naga Siren gains +6% to dodge for each copy.

Edge:

  • Rip Tide — Every 6 attacks from Naga Siren and her illusions, she drenches enemies in water and reduces their armour for 4 seconds.
  • DELUGE — Naga Siren and all her copies douse nearby enemies with water and reduce their resistance to effects.

An innate ability:

  • IMMATERIAL — Gains 1.5% dodge per level.

Facets:

  • VEILED ONE — Blur does not dissipate from attacks.
  • METHODICAL — increases critical damage and makes critical hits not random.

Pudge

Innate ability:

  • FLESH HEAP is now an innate ability.

Edge:

  • Dismember — increases the power of the hero if the target was a hero.
  • Meat Hook — Hook damage is reduced by 50%, but enemies will take damage for the distance they have travelled under the Hook ability.

Innate ability:

  • MIGHT AND MAGUS — Amplification increases the hero's base damage by 100%.

Edge:

  • FRUGAL FILCH — reduces the mana cost of Spell Steal.
  • ARCANE ACCUMULATION — stolen spells will now use the facet of the hero they were stolen from.

  • KEEN SCOPE — increases the attack range of the hero.

Facets:

  • GHILLIE SUIT — the hero does not reveal himself from the fog of war when attacking enemies with Take Aim.
  • SCATTERSHOT — reduces the duration to 1 second, but multiplies the damage by 4 times and slows it by 2 times.

Windranger

An innate ability:

  • EASY BREEZY — Windranger's movement speed is always equal to the wind speed and cannot be lower than 240.

Facets:

  • TAILWIND — allows you to attack one target faster, but with less damage from Focus Fire
  • WHIRLWIND — the Focus Fire ability becomes undirected, the heroine shoots at random targets within the radius of the ability.

Wraith King

An innate ability:

  • Vampiric Spirit — became an innate ability.

Facets:

  • BONE GUARD — the ability allows you to summon skeletons.
  • SPECTRAL BLADE — gives an ability that imposes an effect on enemies, after which they receive additional damage.

Zeus

An innate ability:

  • Static Field — ability returned as an innate ability.

Facets:

  • LIVEWIRE — damage from Static Field depends on the distance between the hero and his target.
  • DIVINE RAMPAGE — hits enemies in order of increasing health with an interval of 0.2. After the enemy dies, the next hit will be stronger.
