Valve engineer warns - Process Lasso software causes crashes in Counter-Strike 2

A program used to “optimize” Counter-Strike 2 performance is actually causing bugs. This has been warned by Valve engineer Fletcher Dunn, who urges users not to use a program called “Process Lasso”.

Interestingly, this program, which is designed to improve performance, actually leads to the opposite result, causing crashes and delays in the game. This is especially important as many players are looking to maximize their systems for the best possible performance in the game.

Fletcher Dunn revealed in a post on Platform X that he recently received another trail of CS2 players using “Process Lasso” to tweak process prioritization. He said these “optimizations” cause delays: a thread is ready to run, processors are available, but core selection is limited, causing the system to hang. Dunn strongly recommends against using this program.

In further messages, Dunn explained that the process scheduling process in CS2 is complex and only works under ideal conditions, which rarely occur under high CPU utilization. The limitations created by the software eventually lead to failures. He also emphasized that removing one processor from the set of available processors may have a minor impact, but downgrading the priority of background processes like steam.exe is usually a bad thing, as modern programs are complex and interact with each other, which can cause game lags.

Process Lasso is a program that allows the user to monitor Windows processes and services and has a number of tools to optimize the operating system. The program has a free and a paid version.

Thus, it is important to keep in mind that using programs such as Process Lasso can lead to unpredictable consequences and performance degradation instead of the expected improvement.
