Tabe after the win over BLG: "Tarzan is our captain, leader, and the spirit of the team"

Anyone’s Legend head coach Wong "Tabe" Pak Kan shared his thoughts after a clean 3:0 victory over Bilibili Gaming in the lower bracket semifinals at MSI 2025. He highlighted the strength of the opponent, explained the team’s bold draft decisions, and reflected on Tarzan’s leadership within the squad.

This interview goes beyond just post-match celebration — it offers a glimpse into how AL’s strategic risks and emotional resilience played a key role in overcoming one of the tournament's strongest teams. Tabe’s insights show how a team finds its identity and focus even in high-pressure moments.

Setting the stage

Anyone’s Legend dropped to the lower bracket after losing to Gen.G earlier in the tournament. Since then, they’ve eliminated CFO and now Bilibili Gaming — both with strong performances. Their next challenge will be against one of the LCK powerhouses, either T1 or Gen.G again, with a grand final spot on the line.

Strategic gambles and dominant teamfights

From the start of the match, it was clear that AL came in with confidence and a willingness to take risks. In Game 3, the team’s draft drew particular attention. According to Tabe, the decision to leave several strong picks open was deliberate:

During the Game 3 draft, it felt like we were on a roller coaster. We knew that if we just banned in the standard way, they’d get Varus, Vi, or Gwen for free. So we challenged ourselves — we left all three open. If they take one, we get two. That was our way to test ourselves.

That gamble paid off, and AL delivered one of their cleanest teamfighting performances of the tournament. Tabe acknowledged BLG's strengths but noted how AL adjusted:

We knew they had strong lanes, so we tried to swap and take neutral resources like Drake and Grubs. We might need to change the strategy against the LCK team tomorrow, but I can't share that here.

Tarzan — The heart of the team

One of the biggest takeaways from the interview was Tabe’s praise for Tarzan, who was named OPPO Player of the Series. Tabe described him as more than just a jungler — but the emotional anchor of the team:

Tarzan is a very cute, kind, and gentle person. He’s like a light in the harbor guiding us through the dark ocean. He helps with drafts, communication, and always encourages the players to stay calm and believe we can still win. Especially in Game 1, when we were behind — he kept communicating, never gave up. He is truly a leader, a captain, and the spirit of the team.

Facing LCK: The next mountain to climb

Looking ahead, Tabe knows that the path only gets harder from here. When asked about the T1 vs. Gen.G series and what AL can learn from it, he responded with caution but determination:

After our loss to Gen.G and watching their series against T1, we realized we need to evolve to reach that level. It will be very hard for us. But we knew that already. Everyone knows how difficult LCK teams are to play against. Still, we will try our best — the whole team, Tarzan, and I — we will give everything we have.

Support from the crowd and closing thoughts

Tabe also addressed the crowd’s overwhelming support in Vancouver, especially from English-speaking fans:

I heard the fans cheering for me — shouting ‘Taby! Tabe!’ I really wanted to turn to the side and give a thumbs-up, but I was afraid it might jinx it. I’m so happy fans came to support us. Thank you very much.

Anyone’s Legend continues their impressive run through the lower bracket and now stands just one step away from the grand final. Defeating BLG is no longer an upset — it’s a statement. But the biggest test still lies ahead: a clash with one of the world’s elite LCK squads.

The Mid-Season Invitational 2025 will take place from June 27 to July 12 in Canada, with a prize pool of $2,000,000. You can follow the news, schedule, and results of the tournament through this link.
