SPUNJ: Cloud9 paid $900,000 for a slot at BLAST Premier

Cloud9, the well-known North American esports organization, spent approximately $900,000 to acquire a spot in BLAST Premier from Evil Geniuses. This information was revealed by Chad "SPUNJ" Burchill in the latest episode of HLTV Confirmed, citing credible sources who approached him with the information.

I'm not going to say by whom, but I had multiple people send me some messages... They told me roughly 900,000 dollary-doos. These were reputable people who mentioned these kind of sums to me, which was quite curious. I didn't even message them, they reached out to me and told me how much it was.It was interesting when I heard that figure for a year and essentially two group stages which is what they would have been paying for. There is revenue share that they get from BLAST that is very significant, which covers more than 50% of that anyway.

This investment became known against the backdrop of changes in the structure of esports leagues that have occurred due to Valve's decision to cancel the "franchise" league structure by the beginning of 2025. This means the end of the closed BLAST Premier and ESL Pro League, which previously promised guaranteed places and revenue distribution for participating teams.

Interestingly, the $900,000 price tag is within the range of previously reported figures regarding the fee for access to BLAST Premier membership slots. For example, in 2020, BIG paid over one million dollars for 100 Thieves  spot in the league.
