Swedish eSports team Ninjas in Pyjamas is finally back to success after several years of hard times. The team has undergone a significant rebuild in 2024, including both roster and leadership changes. These transformations have had a positive impact on the results of the team, which is now playing better than ever under the leadership of Alejandro “alex” Masanet.
Yesterday, NIP secured their spot in the grand finals of the YaLLa Compass 2024 tier-1 level tournament by defeating FURIA in the semifinals. In an interview after the match, star riffler Fredrik “REZ” Sterner said that the change in atmosphere in the team has played a key role in their current successes.
"There's a completely different atmosphere on the team - a lot of new people and a lot of new energy. It's become a lot more fun to play and I'm enjoying every moment of it. It's like a whole new NIP and that's why it's so easy for me to play when I have guys like this,” REZ shared. He also noted the importance of a new player, Artem “r1nkle” Moroz, who brought extra energy and motivation to the team.
In a post-match interview after the win over FURIA, REZ talked about how the team handles tense moments in the game. "We yell a lot, it's very chaotic. But we do it with passion and we don't miss anything. Everyone is talking and picking up, making sure we communicate well. Everyone is doing their job and I think that's a big reason why it's going so well right now. Everyone is confident in their role. I'm just proud of each and every one of them,” he added.
In the grand finals today, NIP will face TheMongolZ, who have previously beaten them, becoming the only team that NIP defeated on their way to the finals. The finalists will compete for the grand prize of $200,000.
