A professional CS2 player criticizes esports for sexism

Tilda "7licious" Byström, a female player on the Evil Geniuses CS2 team, has spoken out against sexism in esports. The Swedish esports athlete also gave advice to other women on how to avoid hate in the industry.

According to Byström, women have a harder time dealing with insults, quickly burn out, and quit gaming. Only a small percentage of women can overcome hate and become professional players.

I am ashamed of the esports industry. Overall, I think that both guys and girls receive roughly the same amount of hate, they just react to it differently. Some people think that girls only play for attention. I used to feel sad and very angry because of insults, but now it doesn't affect me as much.
Many of my female friends have left gaming; they received constant negativity when using a microphone. Maybe some of them could have become the best in the world? We will never know. I recommend all girls to play with friends.

In May 2023, a study was conducted on the interaction of women with other members of the gaming community. According to data from the UK provider Sky, it was found that 49% of women faced harassment or bullying during streaming or online gaming. Over 80% of them reported experiencing sexually explicit comments, and 35% heard threats directed at them.
