PGL has revised the payout system ahead of PGL Bucharest 2025, which starts on April 5. The total prize pool will remain at $1,250,000, but now teams will receive 50% of the total amount, while the other half will go to organizations.
Previously, PGL paid organizations fixed amounts, which caused dissatisfaction among top clubs. PGL decided to follow the ESL and BLAST system, where organizers implemented a bonus system for clubs, making their tournaments more attractive.
The reason for the changes was the refusal of teams to participate in the previous tournament PGL in Cluj-Napoca. Spirit, NAVI, Vitality, and G2 declined to participate. PGL reviewed its policy to avoid similar situations in the future and to bring top rosters back to their tournaments.
In the upcoming PGL Bucharest 2025, teams NAVI and Spirit again declined to participate, as their academy rosters were invited to the closed qualifiers. This prompted a review of the payout system to attract top teams in the future, increase viewership, and boost tournament profits.
PGL Bucharest 2025 will take place from April 6 to 13 in Bucharest, Romania. 16 teams will compete for a prize pool of $625,000, as well as this amount for organizations. You can follow the tournament details, matches, and progress via the link here.
