The PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 Regional Major Rankings (RMRs) have made history, surpassing previous records to become the most-watched RMR cycle ever in Counter-Strike, according to data from escharts.com. This impressive feat underscores the growing global interest in CS2 and sets a high bar for the forthcoming Major tournament in Copenhagen.
The European RMR B emerged as the single most-watched RMR event to date, with an astounding 8.84 million hours watched. This peak was largely attributed to Team Spirit's inclusion, fresh off their victory at IEM Katowice 2024. Their match against MOUZ alone achieved peak viewership, becoming the second-most popular RMR match in the history of Counter-Strike.
Across the Atlantic, the American RMR saw Complexity Gaming's match against FURIA Esports draw 251,612 peak viewers, a testament to Complexity's consistent ability to attract audiences during RMR events.
In the Asia-Pacific region, Mongolia's presence was strongly felt with TheMongolZ qualifying for their second consecutive Major tournament, cementing Mongolia's status as an emerging esports hub. However, despite high interest, the English-speaking Australian demographic will lack representation at the Copenhagen Major as Grayhound Gaming, despite peaking in viewership for their match against Lynn Vision, will not attend following their operational shutdown.
When aggregated, the Copenhagen RMRs recorded over 22 million hours watched, representing an 18.2% increase from the previous BLAST.tv Paris Major RMRs, even with a 14.6% reduction in airtime.
This viewership momentum bodes well for the upcoming PGL Major Copenhagen 2024, which begins on March 17 and features some of Counter-Strike's most popular teams. The Major holds the potential to outstrip the PGL Major Stockholm 2021, currently the most-watched Major with over 71 million hours watched.
Fans and analysts eagerly anticipate the Copenhagen Major, predicting it could become one of the most-watched Counter-Strike tournaments in history. With high-profile teams and an engaged global audience, the event is poised to potentially surpass previous viewership records and elevate the prestige of CS2 esports.
