"Our main goal is to get on stage" - Techno and The MongolZ surprised Spirit at IEM Cologne

The MongolZ pulled a second surprise at the IEM Cologne group stage, defeating Spirit in just two cards. This put the reigning world number two on the brink of elimination from the tournament. This achievement by The MongolZ was especially impressive considering their recent slump after winning YaLLa Compass in June. In addition, the team lost to 3DMAX in the Skyesports Championship final, making their triumph in Cologne even more unexpected.

The MongolZ were going through a difficult period, after winning the YaLLa Compass they started to lose ground. At ESL Challenger Jönköping and Esports World Cup they left the tournaments in the early stages, and the Skyesports Championship final was a disappointing one for them. However, despite all these setbacks, they managed to pull themselves together and come out victorious in the match against Spirit, which was a real highlight.

Challenge and Response

The win over Spirit secured The MongolZ the opportunity to face SAW in the second round of the top set. These teams had already met at the Play-In stage, where SAW came away with a 2-1 victory. However, The MongolZ are now set for a rematch. "We were ahead on 'Anubis' but we made a lot of mistakes. I think now we will sort it out and we can win," Sodbayar "Techno" Munkhbold shared his thoughts for HLTV after the match.

Moving on to LANXESS

For The MongolZ, defeating Spirit is only part of the journey. Now their goal is to get to the LANXESS stage and play in front of an audience of thousands and become the first team from Mongolia to achieve this. "This is our main goal," emphasized Techno. The Mongolians are not going to stop there and intend to continue their triumphant journey.

The significance of The MongolZ's win

The MongolZ's victory over Spirit has huge significance for The MongolZ themselves and for the entire cybersport scene. It emphasizes their ability to come back from setbacks and prove their competitiveness. The match against SAW will be a new challenge for them, but The MongolZ are determined to achieve their goal and make it to the main stage of IEM Cologne.
