nitr0 leaves Valorant and returns to Counter-Strike 2

According to Dust2.us, former Liquid star and Intel Grand Slam Season 2 winner Nick "nitr0" Cannella is planning a return to the Counter-Strike scene. The return of the legendary IGL will come after a busy career in which nitr0 was a top player during some of the most successful periods of Liquid's CS history. A recent phase of his career included a brief stint in VALORANT with 100 Thieves.

nitr0 left Counter-Strike after Liquid finished in eighth place at BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023. His last tournament was at IEM Dallas 2023. Liquid then switched to a European roster, making Mareks "YEKINDAR" Gaļinskis the new captain. However, this experiment was unsuccessful and the organization kept only Latvian and Canadian Keith "NAF" Markovic, rebuilding the roster once again.

After retiring from Counter-Strike in 2023, nitr0 joined M80, becoming part of its VALORANT roster that competed in the North American Challengers League. Earlier this month, the 28-year-old player left the team and announced that he would announce his plans soon. It has now been made official that nitr0 is leaving Valorant and returning to Counter-Strike.

Dust2.us also reported that nitr0 has already been in talks with several Counter-Strike teams about his return. It's still unclear in what capacity he plans to return, considering the level of travel and growing family was the reason for his second departure from Liquid in 2023.

Dust2.us also reached out to nitr0 and he confirmed that VALORANT didn't live up to his expectations and he didn't see his future there. He believes that CS is his home and with the lack of IGL in NA, this is where he should be. The player noted that he still has a lot to offer NA CS and can't wait to give his best to CS2.

His return to the CS scene is almost confirmed and it will be interesting to see which team nitr0 ends up on, as the NA scene is in the midst of the summer reshuffle and many teams are looking to improve their standings ahead of the Perfect World Major Shanghai 2024 Americas RMR.
