ESL in their official Twitter announced the teams that received direct invitations to ESL Impact Season 5, which starts on March 6. The invitations were handed out based on the teams' performances in previous tournaments.
In the regular season, 28 teams from three regions compete. In Europe, 12 teams participate, in North and South America — eight each.
15 teams received direct invitations: seven in Europe and four each in North and South America. The rest of the participants will be determined through open qualifiers, which will take place in each region.
The regular season offers not only a share of the prize pool of $27,000 (distributed across three regions) but also places at the LAN final with a prize pool of $150,000 in Dallas, which will take place from May 31 to June 2.
Four best teams from Europe, two from North America, and one from South America will qualify for the LAN finals. The last spot in the eight-team LAN will be played out in an open Asian qualifier. The cancellation of ESL Impact Katowice and changes in the distribution of slots caused criticism in the community.
