In his latest interview, G2 Esports rifler Nikola "NiKo" Kovač discussed why the team decided to part ways with Justin "jks" Savage and also shed some light on the team's behind-the-scenes dynamics.
Let's start with who initiated the kick of jks. NiKo:
I didn't participate in this, I didn't even vote. G2 discussed this without me, all the discussions in the team happened in my absence. I returned to the team and found out that Justin had left and nexa, on the contrary, returned. And I just thought: "okay, we'll work with what we have and try to make it work."
Kovač also talked about how due to jks, there was a discord in roles and morale in the team:
I don't want to delve into details, but all this happened when I was about to leave G2. Justin is a great player, but like me and any other player, he has his strengths and weaknesses. I understand that many are unhappy with his departure, as jks had good statistics, especially in important matches, but not everything in this game is about numbers. There are things that people outside the team simply do not notice. I think nexa is a good team player, ready to sacrifice himself for the team. He will also bring much more initiative and communicate better. With Justin, we had too many "star" roles. I truly believe that he can truly shine in another team, and I wish Justin only the best.
He concluded his story about rumors regarding his salary at G2 in connection with the kick of jks:
My salary has not changed, I did not try to extort money or use invitations for money. The rumor that jks was removed because of my salary is false. Falcons contacted me in August, but there was nothing serious at that time. When Lars Robl and zonic joined them, serious negotiations began. Zonic was the main reason why I seriously considered this offer. I have great respect for this pair, and I believed that they could make me a better player. Now I am fully committed to G2. I'm here to show my best performance, improve my game, and help the team achieve the best results. I wouldn't have stayed in G2 if I didn't believe that we are still capable of winning.
It is worth noting that the first tournament for the team in the new lineup will be BLAST Premier: World Final 2023, and their first opponents will be MOUZ. You can find more about this tournament here.
