Proposal for CS2 on Reddit for a new item lock feature

A lively discussion among the Counter-Strike 2 community has broken out on Reddit over a new proposal to increase the security of gaming assets. Introduced by a user with the nickname peith_biyan, the “Item Lock” feature was introduced amidst the rise in account theft and malicious item sharing. It allows players to block their valuable items in their inventory, limiting the ability to exchange or sell them without the explicit consent of the owner.

According to the proposal, players could use Steam Guard to activate the lock on selected items, which would provide an additional layer of protection. The items would remain available for use in the game, but would be blocked from being traded or transferred for a certain period of time, from 48 hours to seven days.

The community reaction was divided. Some users praised the idea, considering it a useful tool to combat fraud and illegal access to accounts. At the same time, others expressed concern about the potential inconvenience that could be caused to honest players who are actively engaged in trading items.

Critics also raised the issue of the possibility of circumventing Steam Guard, noting that without addressing the underlying security issues, such changes may not have a significant impact. The discussion is ongoing, and the community is waiting for further clarification from the developers and a possible pilot implementation of the system to evaluate its effectiveness in real-world conditions.
