ESL today announced that there will be no BO1 format matches at IEM Cologne 2024. This was done after they took the opinion of the players and the community, which is getting interesting.
Normally BO1 was in the first stage of the Play-In, but this time it will not be there and players will immediately play in BO3 format. This change will only apply to this tournament, but maybe it will be applied to the next tournament in the future.
In addition to this, they have also published the groups for the Play-In, the stage, also the main tournament. You can read more about the Play-In stage below:
Also groups A and B in the main stage, which will play for the top prize of $400,000, slots to IEM Katowice 2025 and BLAST Premier World Final. Teams that exit the tournament in the Play-In stage will receive $2,500 and $4,500, for 21st-24th place and 17th-20th place respectively.
Past tournament champions were G2 Esports, who made replacements this offseason and it will be interesting to follow them and whether they can become champions again. After all, at the last Esports World Cup 2024 they finished second after losing in the final to NAVI, this tournament will be their opportunity to avenge that.
This tournament will take place after the invite list has been announced, but it will still be an important tournament because if they win, they can secure two more major tournaments in the future.
