In light of his recent victories at BLAST Premier: Fall Final 2023 and BLAST Premier: World Final 2023, William "mezii" Merriman, a player for Vitality, shared his thoughts on the differences in leadership between Dan "apEX" Madesclaire and Christopher "dexter" Nong in a recent interview.
Mezii, who joined Vitality after a period of playing with dexter in fnatic, noted that the overall atmosphere in the teams is significantly different. He describes apEX as an experienced leader with years of practice in managing the team both
in and out of the game. According to Mezii, apEX proved to be a "true leader," controlling the team and helping it focus on the game and set goals.
In contrast, mezii believes that dexter was effective in managing the team during the game, but outside of the game, there were many loud voices in the team. This comment reflects Mezii's impressions of the importance of overall leadership, which includes both in-game and out-of-game aspects of team management.
I think the overall atmosphere is different. dexter has done it for a while, but apEX has got the experience where you can tell he's been doing it for years and has the experience of being an actual leader in the team outside of the game as well. I think dexter did a great job inside the game in terms of controlling the team, but outside of the game we had a lot of big voices, but here apEX does a really good job of controlling that and making sure that we're focussed on the game and the set goal. apEX is just a really good whole package in terms of in and outside of the game, he's a true leader.
Mezii's move to Vitality and his collaboration with apEX are part of a new chapter in his career, reflected in the two championship titles he won, which are the first in his career. His comments reflect an understanding of how different leadership styles can affect overall success and team atmosphere.
