Jason Lake, CEO and founder of the esports organization Complexity, is attempting to buy back the organization from GameSquare. This initiative emerged in response to reports that GameSquare acquired FaZe Clan, which could create a potential conflict of interest as both teams participate in significant Counter-Strike tournaments.
The GameSquare deal to acquire FaZe Clan is valued at approximately 17 million dollars, and its completion was announced on October 20. Given the participation of FaZe and Complexity in leading events, ESL is already examining the potential implications of this move for its tournaments.

Lake, who founded Complexity in 2003, has previously bought back the organization, notably from media company DirecTV after the failure of the Championship Gaming Series. In 2017, he sold a controlling stake to Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and investor John Goff. In 2021, GameSquare acquired Complexity for 27 million dollars.
Lake is actively seeking investors to buy back Complexity, including trips to Dubai and Abu Dhabi. If he finds the necessary support, it will be the second time he reacquires the organization.
Complexity has shown impressive results in CS2, including a second-place finish at IEM Sydney 2023 and reaching the semifinals of BLAST Premier: Fall Final 2023. The organization has rosters in various disciplines, including Rocket League, Halo, Madden, Apex Legends, and Valorant, and collaborates with various content creators.
