G2's captain Rasmus HooXi Nielsen expressed the team's position on the current political situation and about photos with flags.

HooXi started with a situation at the BLAST Premier World Final 2022. Then G2 took a picture with a fan who was holding a Russian flag. The club and players received a vast amount of negativity after this photo, and now HooXi explained how it happened.

Several guys asked us for a photo when we were about to call the elevator to our utility room. <...> Since we were caught off guard, we were not as attentive as we should have been. I saw a polite guy wrapped in a flag asking for a photo. The flag was upside down when it was wrapped in it, and I saw a figure that looked like an eagle, so I thought it was a Serbian flag. <…> Obviously, I regret that we took the photo because the team and I never wanted to get into political conflicts.

Serbia's flag is very similar to the Russian flag, and if it is turned upside down, they will be identical. Therefore, it is possible that it was just a mistake, considering that HooXi says he isn't interested in politics.

The only problem is that the captain explained the situation only now and didn't respond immediately when the negativity poured down on G2.

Rejection to take a photo with the Ukrainian flag

The second episode with the flag happened at IEM Katowice during the autograph session. Then HooXi refused to be photographed with the Ukrainian flag and put it aside. Finally, the captain told how it looked from his point of view.

At one of our autograph sessions, another peaceful guy approached us to take a photo. This time we drew from the first episode and were a little more careful, and I decided not to risk flags or any other symbols that might represent a political opinion. I politely explained the situation and said he could take a photo without the flag. People were waiting in line, so I helped him put the flag on the table next to us.

That is, HooXi, no matter what flag a fan has, now he will refuse to take a photo with anyone to avoid a political scandal. This is likely not only the opinion of the G2's captain but also the organization's since it clearly doesn't need scandals anymore. Therefore, now approaching the team with flags makes no sense.

However, it doesn't mean that G2 has no political position at all.

HooXi, like the entire composition of G2, is against war, as the captain clearly stated at the beginning of his message.

I want to clarify that none of us support the war or any other words you use to describe what is happening in the world now. It's terrible, and any person in their right mind would have such an opinion, so the same applies to my team and me.

The result of this situation can be considered that HooXi showed as an excellent captain who stood up for himself and the whole team and finally broke his silence about this situation. Many were waiting for comments from the team last year, but now the situation has become clearer.

The only problem is that the team should have responded sooner.
