Yesterday, G2 crushed BIG in their first match at IEM Katowice 2023.
Yesterday, G2 crushed BIG in their first match at IEM Katowice. After the victory, the team's captain Rasmus HooXi Nielsen talked with the Polish portal cybersport.pl. He spoke about expectations from the tournament and attention to the team.
HooXi remained a gigachad
At the beginning of the interview, HooXi talked about how he feels about the HooXi-gigachad meme becoming popular in the community.
I'm used to it. It's funny. At first, the meme seems rude, but now it's more lovely.
This meme appeared when HooXi had just entered G2 and showed terrible statistics. For example, he could play a match with a rating of 3.9, which hindered the team. Then a viral meme appeared.
However, with the improvement of G2's results, the meme morphed, and now many fans use it to praise HooXi. Ultimately, the Dane became the captain with whom G2 won their first trophy in five years.
G2 can win IEM Katowice
G2's and HooXi's expectations from IEM Katowice are high but realistic.
I'm not sure [we get to the grand final], but we can win the tournament overall. And this is our goal.
It was G2 who became the champions of the last major tier-1 tournament - BLAST Premier World Final 2022. This trophy was the first in HooXi's career and the first for G2 in the previous five years. At the same time, the team didn't lose its form during the break.
The team easily took first place in the BLAST Premier Spring Groups 2023 group and got off to a good start at IEM Katowice with a 2-0 win over BIG. Therefore, G2 has every chance to win the second trophy in a row.
When does G2 play?
After defeating BIG, they advanced to the semifinals of Group A, where the team will face FaZe Clan. The match will be held today at 6:00 PM Moscow time. All information about IEM Katowice can be found on the tournament's page.
