The organizers of the GET Rio 2024 tournament, which took place in April last year, have not yet paid the promised prize pools and reimbursed the participants' expenses. This was stated by Sakken CEO of Metizport, confirming that his team has not yet received $5,000 for reaching the top 8 of the tournament. Monte Dance's esports director commented on a similar situation, noting that the Ukrainian club also did not receive proper payments.
Chaos at the tournament and the consequences
It is worth reminding that the GET Rio 2024 tournament received a lot of criticism during the event due to numerous schedule delays, technical problems, and organizational errors. According to the well-known analyst Petr1k, the tournament ended in a “miracle” and he is not surprised that the prize money has not been paid yet:
“100% of the organizers stole a lot of money on everything, including prize money. The main thing is that the teams have been feeding the Valve rating points.”
The total prize pool of the tournament was $200,000. The main payouts were distributed among such teams as paiN Gaming ($100,000 for 1st place) and Imperial Esports ($50,000 for 2nd place). It is not yet known whether the top participants have received their money.
Community reaction
Social media users are actively discussing the situation, criticizing the organizers for mismanagement. One comment emphasizes the sarcasm:
“As the tournament is organized, so is the timeliness of payments.”
The situation around the payments has created tension among the CS2 professional scene. Many analysts are calling on Valve to check tournament organizers more carefully to avoid similar incidents in the future.
What's next?
So far, there is no official reaction from the organizers of GET Rio 2024. It remains unknown whether tournament participants will be able to receive their prizes. Valve also does not comment on the situation, although the tournament was important for the team ranking in the season.
