GamerLegion contacted Valve to request a fix for the ranking update error

GamerLegion found themselves at the center of a controversy due to an error in the Valve ranking update. Due to the glitch, the team lost their 12th place, which guaranteed invitations to key tournaments — BLAST Open Spring and PGL Bucharest. Now the organization is demanding justice and urging Valve to resolve the issue promptly.

Team rankings play a crucial role in the distribution of invites to top tournaments. An error in the ranking calculation can affect not only GamerLegion but the entire competitive scene, jeopardizing the principle of fair play.

What went wrong?

A few days ago, Valve updated their ranking, which determines which teams receive invitations to upcoming tournaments. However, there was a glitch in the system: teams still competing in IEM Katowice did not receive the points they deserved. Meanwhile, teams already eliminated were evaluated correctly.

The issue was first pointed out by the manager of Complexity, messioso, who posted about it on X. Later, GamerLegion picked up on the situation as the error directly affected their position in the standings.

Lost opportunity and demand for justice

At the time of the ranking update, GamerLegion were still competing at IEM Katowice. However, due to the incorrect calculation, their 12th place was lost, depriving the team of automatic invitations to BLAST Open Spring and PGL Bucharest. The organization made an official statement on X:

We have identified what appears to be a calculation discrepancy in the February Valve Ranking update, specifically involving prize pool calculations and minimum prize pool guaranteed for teams still in competition, intended to balance out prize pools for teams that have already been eliminated. This issue has significantly impacted our standing and eligibility for recent invites, as we missed the Top 12 placement in the global VRS that we believe we rightfully deserved.

GamerLegion emphasizes that their goal is not to undermine other teams but to achieve transparency and fairness in a ranking that affects the entire professional esports scene.

Valve's error calls into question the accuracy of the ranking used for tournament invitations. If the issue is not resolved, a similar situation could occur in the future and affect other teams. GamerLegion has already contacted Valve with a demand to review the ranking calculation, and now the community awaits their response.
