"We couldn't handle the pressure,": G2 players commented on the elimination from BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023

G2 Esports players spoke about their elimination from the last major in the history of CS:GO — BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023. Athletes also wrote about the reasons for the defeat by Fnatic.

Another failure

G2 once again failed at the major. The organization has not been represented in the playoffs of major CS:GO tournaments since 2018. Then, at the ELEAGUE Major Boston 2018, an utterly French team was able to reach the final stage of the major but immediately lost and was eliminated, taking 5-8th place. Since then, the club's teams either fail in the first two stages of the championships or do not pass them at all.

Players’ comments

To be honest, I have no idea [what we lacked to beat Fnatic]. In this match, we played under a lot of pressure, I don't know what else to say. The opponents performed very well, and they quickly adapted to our game. We did not manage to do the same in response. On Ancient, they were better, and Vertigo, as I said, adjusted well to our attack. I don't know what happened. Fantic played well, and you have to give them credit.
It turns out, I didn't deserve to win any of the majors. I was close, but I missed a lot of chances. A new chapter will begin in CS 2. That's all.
Nikola NiKo Kovac

The team’s sniper, Ilya m0NESY Osypov, apologized to the fans and promised to improve the results in the future.

I have nothing to say, and you saw everything yourself. It is very sad to realize that I had never played in the playoffs of a major...
This is not the last game. I promise I'll be ready for the next one. Once again, sorry for such a shame. I will try again.
Ilya m0NESY Osipov

The team’s captain Rasmus HooXi Nielsen took the blame for the defeat on himself.

I take responsibility for today's defeat. We lost two cards because we couldn't handle the pressure and emotions, leading to bad and rash decisions. It is unpleasant to realize that our attack failed us, although everything went well until then. I apologize. I tried my best.
Rasmus HooXi Nielsen

Nemanja HuNter- Kovac also apologized to the fans and wished good luck to the teams fighting for the major.

Not good enough. Good luck to all the teams still fighting here [at the major] in Paris. Forgive us everyone who came to support us in Paris😔
Nemanja HuNter- Kovac

The path of G2 at the major in Paris

G2 began their performance at BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023 from the Challengers stage, which they easily overcame, winning three convincing victories over The Mongolz, Complexity Gaming, and Apeks. It seemed that HooXi’s team was guaranteed a place in the competition's playoffs, but problems began already from the first round of the Legends stage. Defeats by Team Vitality and then by Bad News Eagles broke the spirit of G2. Then the team managed to rally and defeat FURIA Esports, but then there was a lackluster game against Fnatic, and they were eliminated from the major. G2 on BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023 took 12-14 place and earned $20 000.

BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023 takes place from May 8 to 21 in France. The teams are vying for a prize fund of $1.25 million. The champion will also receive slots at IEM Cologne 2023 and BLAST Premier: World Final 2023. You can follow the schedule and tournament results here.
