G2 Esports announced the departure of Rasmus "HooXi" Nielsen from their starting lineup after two years with the team. This change followed the organization's replacement of Nemanja "nexa" Isaković with Mario "malbsMd" Samayoa.
HooXi, who joined G2 in the summer of 2022 from Copenhagen Flames, became the team's captain. Under his leadership, G2 won their first major tournament since 2017 at the BLAST Premier World Final just two months after his arrival. Despite this early success, G2's results under HooXi were mixed. They achieved a series of 13 consecutive victories in major tournaments, including a title at IEM Katowice, and lifted the trophy at IEM Cologne in the second half of 2023.
However, consistent victories eluded G2 after their triumph in Cologne. Their only significant win came at IEM Dallas 2024, where Jake "Stewie2K" Yip temporarily replaced HooXi. This added pressure on the already criticized captain. G2's decision to replace Justin "jks" Savage with nexa did not bring the desired changes, leading to nexa's departure and malbsMd's arrival. HooXi's departure was the next step, signaling G2's intent to completely revamp their roster.
Multiple trophies, hundreds of memes, and loads of the most cracked content.

Today is the deadline for bids for the upcoming Esports World Cup, which means that HooXi's replacement has already been determined. The main question that remains is whether G2 will choose another captain or entrust this role to Nikola "NiKo" Kovacs, who successfully led the team at IEM Dallas 2024, where they managed to win the event
