FaZe to merge with GameSquare next week

Next week, FaZe Clan shareholders will have the opportunity to vote on a merger with GameSquare, the company that owns Complexity. The FaZe Clan Board of Directors has expressed unanimous support for this deal and recommended shareholders to approve the merger scheduled for voting on February 16.

This merger has been under discussion since late October 2023 when GameSquare announced its intention to acquire FaZe Clan in a deal where FaZe would become a part of GameSquare, obtaining around 45% of the shares of the new company, valued at approximately $16 million. This is significantly lower than the initial valuation of FaZe Clan at a billion dollars before their IPO via SPAC.

Although originally planned to be completed by the end of 2023, the timelines were pushed back, and now the official vote will take place on February 16. This merger holds strategic significance as Jason Lake from Complexity is considering raising external investments to buy out his team from GameSquare, avoiding potential conflicts of interest between FaZe and Complexity teams in Counter-Strike.

Additionally, in an episode of a podcast with Tyler "Ninja" Blevins, GameSquare CEO Justin Kenna revealed that the company invested in a commercial spot at the Super Bowl to celebrate the upcoming merger, showcasing GameSquare's ambitions to strengthen its position in the esports arena.
