ESL forced jL to remove his headband during the match — he faced a fine and disqualification

During the match between Natus Vincere and FaZe Clan in Group A at IEM Sydney 2023 for Counter-Strike 2, the referee made Justinas 'jL' Lekavicius remove his headband. The esports athlete complied without argument.

Had the NAVI player refused this demand, he could have been penalized with a $250 fine and even disqualified from the duel. This rule was introduced by ESL in the summer of 2023 and prohibits the wearing of headgear during play. Previously, at the same tournament, jL had played two matches with a headband, and problems arose only during this particular match.

The confrontation ended with a score of 1:2 — 7:13 on Overpass, 13:4 on Mirage, and 7:13 on Inferno. NAVI left the championship, taking 9th-12th place and earning $5k. Instead of Aleksandr 's1mple' Kostyliev, Andrey 'B1ad3' Gorodenskiy played in the competition."
