Counter-Strike 2 May Turn Out to Be a Simple Update Of CS:GO

Players should lower their expectations.

Counter-Strike 2 may be a simple update; most players won't notice the changes.

Dataminer Gabe Follower spoke in more detail about what Counter-Strike 2 might look like. According to him, Valve will update CS:GO to a new version that will be in beta for some time, and significant changes should not be expected.

What will the update be?

Gabe Follower said the update would be a rather soft transition of CS:GO to Source 2. At first, as with Dota 2, at launch, the player will be given a choice between the versions of Source and Source 2. Thus, the new version will be tested to replace CS on Source completely.

At the same time, a new game version does not mean new content awaits players, and most users may not notice the changes. In addition, Source 2 can hardly be called a new engine. The engine has existed for more than ten years. It was first introduced in 2012. Therefore, the update may disappoint casual players.

Anti-cheat will not be updated

In addition to new content and general game improvement, fans also await an anti-cheat update. However, it would be best if you did not count on it for a simple reason - it is unnecessary.

Valve already has a rather breakthrough development of VACNET, based on neural networks. This system already copes well with classic cheats; in the future, it will be able to track software based on neural networks. Valve would rather improve the current system than develop an anti-cheat on kernels. And this cannot be called a wrong decision because VACNET is a good and exciting development.

The first versions of the update may work unstably

Another reason why players can be disappointed is bugs. The first versions of CS:GO on Source 2 will most likely be unstable. Users will experience graphical bugs, freezes, and low FPS. This is almost inevitable because the beta update will be public, and the first players will become testers.

No need to wait for new content

According to Gabe Follower, 20 people continue to work on CS in the studio. Many developers were also involved in porting the game to a new engine. And this is the main reason why you should not wait for new content with the release of Counter-Strike 2. The developers literally needed more resources to create new operations, modes, and skins.

It will reduce expectations for players. However, you shouldn't be too upset because transferring the game to Source 2 will make it easier to create new content for the game, and after the release of CS2, updates will appear more often.
