The Brazilian Minister of Sports, who did not consider esports to be a sport, has been fired from her position

Brazilian Minister of Sports Ana Mozer is leaving her post. The former professional volleyball player got involved in a series of scandals due to her statements that esports is merely an entertainment industry, not a sport. She will be replaced by Andre Fufuca.

In January, Mozer stated that she had no intention of investing in esports, comparing the training of players to the preparation of singer Ivete Sangalo and strongly opposed the inclusion of this discipline in the General Sports Law.

Later, Ana Mozer tried to rectify the situation. The former minister supported the creation of an interagency group to discuss the recognition of the discipline with representatives of the Brazilian Esports and Gaming Confederation (CBDEL).

Ana Mozer's departure was officially announced on September 6. The statement from the Brazilian presidential palace stated that the change occurred during the day after a meeting of President Luís Inácio Lula da Silva with Fufuca, federal deputy, Minister of Interinstitutional Relations Alexandre Padilha, and also federal deputy André Silvio Costa Filho, who will head the port and airport department. According to the statement, the appointment and inauguration will take place after Lula's return from the G20 summit. At the time of publication, there is no information on the position of the new Brazilian Minister of Sports regarding esports.
