The final Tier-1 championship of the first season of BLAST Premier: Spring Final 2023 is starting tomorrow night. Astralis and FaZe Clan will meet in their first match of Group B. Which team will be able to start the tournament with a victory?
Team Form
The last meeting between the teams was back in August of last year at the BLAST Premier Fall Groups 2022, where FaZe Clan defeated Astralis with a score of 2-1. After that, they managed to secure the 4th-6th place in the championship.
The motivation of the teams plays a crucial role and can lead to the desired results. They are already on the verge of the summer break, and the release of CS2 is expected in just a few months.
Why will the captains play the main role? It's simple because at the moment, the teams are very similar on paper, even though some players in Astralis do not have as much experience as those in FaZe Clan. But the level of play is very similar.
The rating of the Danish sniper is 6.8, while the Latvian's is only 6.3.
Map Selection
Of course, we should first dismiss the teams' permabans. For Astralis, it's the newly arrived Anubis, while for FaZe Clan, it's the two-tier Vertigo.
Looking at the win rates on the maps, it can be observed that Astralis slightly outperform their opponents on three out of five maps. Specifically, on Overpass, Ancient, and Nuke.
But considering that in the previous major, the BLAST.tv Major Paris 2023, FaZe Clan reached the quarterfinals, while Astralis only made it to the RMR qualification stage.
From this, it can be concluded that Astralis' win rate at the moment is built on Tier-2 level teams, while FaZe Clan played against the best of the best.
The match between Astralis and FaZe Clan will take place on the night of June 7-8, 2023, with the start scheduled for 02:00.
BLAST Premier: Spring Final 2023 is held from June 7th to June 11th, 2023. The championship's prize pool is $425,000. The tournament takes place in LAN format, specifically in Washington, United States.
