League of Legends esports gets bigger and better every year. Riot Games continues to put on the biggest esports events in the world with Worlds 2024 being another successful event for the developer.

A big feature ahead of every Worlds final is the opening ceremony. In recent years, MasterCard has presented the opening ceremony, and they have not missed on these, they have been incredible to watch. Over the years Riot has had many famous artists help perform in front of a packed League of Legends crowd. And this year, Worlds 2024 opening ceremony broke the viewership record at 4.2 Million peak viewers according to Esports Charts

Worlds 2024 had massive expectations set upon them after bringing in Linkin Park, one of the biggest bands on the planet. The band performed their new song Heavy is the Crown, the official theme song for Worlds 2024. Along with that, there was performances from Ashnikko, Mars Atlas of Forts, and Tiffany Aris, to round out the opening ceremony with Paint the Town Blue and Still Here.

How does this stack up to other opening ceremonies? Let's take a look. Worlds 2024 surpassed the previous record holder in Worlds 2022, which featured Lil Nas X who like Linkin Park, performend their new song Starwalkin as the official theme for the tournament. That Worlds came in at 3.3 Million peak viewers for the opening ceremony.

Worlds 2024 also trumped the previous year's ceremony, which again featured multiple artists along with K-pop band New Jeans. Worlds 2023 came in at 2.5 Million Peak viewers. A step down from Worlds 2022. The amazing ceremony was followed up by a spectacular final which saw T1 and Faker pick up a fifth title.
