On July 25, during the Round 3–5 stage of the LCK 2025 Season, a giant clash occurred between T1 and Gen.G, ending with a dramatic victory for T1 with a score of 2:1. This result was not only an important win for Faker's team but also a historic moment—Gen.G lost for the first time after 27 consecutive wins in the LCK.
Gen.G started the series strong, winning the first map thanks to coordinated play and confident macro control. It seemed that another victory was only a matter of time. However, on the second map, the team made a critical drafting error—the chosen champions were unable to inflict enough damage on the opponent. The lack of damage and overly passive strategy played a cruel joke on the favorites, allowing T1 to even the score in the series.
The climax of the showdown occurred on the decisive third map, where Gumayusi became the true hero of the match. He surprised viewers and analysts by picking Aphelios—a champion he last used back in 2023. Despite the risky pick, his performance in the late stages of the game was crucial: a series of precise shots and smart positioning allowed T1 to dominate in the decisive team fights.
For his exceptional play and the unexpected return of Aphelios, Gumayusi was named the MVP of the match.
Best Moment of the Match
Despite the loss, the best moment of the match was a brilliant fight on the first map by Gen.G and a wombo combo with Orianna:
