Ruler and Duro after winning MSI 2025: "This is just the beginning"

Gen.G players Ruler and Duro shared their emotions after their triumph at the Mid-Season Invitational 2025, where their team defeated T1 in a tense final series. The match ended 3:2 in favor of Gen.G, and the decisive Game 5 was won thanks to a bold Pyke pick by rookie Duro. In the post-match interview, the stars opened up about the pressure, their self-belief, and what comes next.

Gen.G’s victory isn’t just another title — it’s a personal milestone for both players. For Ruler, it’s a return to the international stage after a tough 2024. For Duro, it was a debut filled with confidence and impact.

From risky pick to championship moment

The MSI 2025 final was a back-and-forth battle. In Game 5, Duro made the surprising decision to lock in Pyke — a high-risk, high-reward champion — in the most critical moment:

I had several other options that were pretty meh and mid, so instead of going for these mid options, I would rather go with Pyke because I didn't want to get smacked by killing Karma in lane. I wanted to go for the high-risk play and make something clutch happen, and I was pretty confident about the pick,

Ruler — still not satisfied, but still on top

Although this is Ruler’s second MSI title, he admitted he hasn’t yet regained the full confidence he once had with JDG in 2023.

Actually, not yet. But I can say for sure that I am the best player here at MSI

Gen.G as a support system

Duro credited not only his individual performance but also the unwavering support from his teammates and coaching staff:

I was able to make it all the way here because Gen.G thought really highly of me, and I'm very grateful for that. And also, it's not just about me doing well — it's the rest of the four players taking really good care of me, also the coaching staff. So I want to say thank you to everyone who helped me reach where I'm at right now

The hunger to prove never fades

Ruler was emotional when speaking about what this victory meant to him, especially after missing out on major events in the previous year:

I'm very, very happy at this moment. I also mentioned my goal as a professional player is just participating in this right event and keeping on proving myself. I think today's victory means that I proved myself, which makes me really happy. I just want to keep going, keep participating, keep making appearances, and keep winning

MadLife’s legacy and Duro’s future

Duro revealed that his inspiration came from the legendary support MadLife, and now he aims to build a legacy of his own.

MadLife was my idol when I started. I always looked up to him because he’s a support player that opened a new chapter of the role. He has an untouchable reputation, and I just want to be like him. I just wish my performance could be as good as MadLife’s. I just want to have a reputation as good as MadLife’s, so I'm just going to keep grinding and keep going forward

Gen.G claimed their first MSI title after defeating T1 in a dramatic final. For Ruler, it marked his second Mid-Season Invitational championship, this time with a different team and from a different region. Duro, on the other hand, was making his international debut — and sealed it with a game-winning performance.

The Mid-Season Invitational 2025 will take place from June 27 to July 12 in Canada, with a prize pool of $2,000,000. You can follow the news, schedule, and results of the tournament through this link.
