New ARAM Mode: Mayhem Announced in League of Legends

League of Legends developers have announced a new temporary mode, ARAM: Mayhem, in the latest Dev Update. This mode will introduce an augment system to the standard ARAM, allowing players to enhance champions during the match. The new format will be available in a separate queue with the release of patch 25.21 and will not replace the base mode.

New Chaos on the Abyss

Players will be able to choose up to five augments per match — one at the start of the game, and the others at levels 7, 11, and 15. Augments enhance champions in radical ways: you can become an unkillable Sona, enlarge a snowball to the size of a rink, or gain bonuses for teleporting to the enemy base.

Some improvements are carried over from the Arena mode, but more than 40 augments are created specifically for Mayhem. Some interact with ARAM mechanics, such as:

  • King Me — grants bonuses for using portals at the enemy base.
  • Biggest Snowball Ever — increases the snowball and its effect.
  • Fetch — allows picking up allies' snowballs and recharging your own.

Balancing Madness and Readability

To avoid cluttering the screen with effects, developers have removed augments with persistent visual effects that were unsuitable for mass battles. Instead, auto-casting enhancements with increased damage remain to maintain the dynamic and readability of fights.

The ARAM: Mayhem mode will be available only during the event and will not replace the standard ARAM. The base mode will remain in the client as a separate queue, and the new variation will allow players to try unconventional builds and updated mechanics without altering the familiar gaming experience.
