On January 19, another gaming day of the LCK Cup 2025 took place. Two matches were played — Gen.G against BNK FearX and KT Rolster against Hanwha Life Esports. In this article, we summarize these matches.
Gen.G vs BNK FearX
The first map was generally under BNK's control with a very successful pick that allowed them to win all skirmishes. The only thing Gen.G could counter with was almost full control of the objectives. Thanks to this, they managed to hold on.
There were several attempts to initiate fights, but they only made the situation worse. The turning point of the first map happened when everyone thought BNK was about to finish the game. During one of the fights near the nexus, Diable on Ezreal misstepped significantly, giving Gen.G a chance to win the fight and take Baron and another dragon, though Gen.G lost two players for it.
BNK made a very risky decision to try to finish the game while the opponent had the Baron effect. This turned out to be a mistake, resulting in another lost fight near the nexus due to timely assistance from Ruler and Kiin who had just respawned. This buried all chances for BNK to win the game.
On the second map, BNK held on well until the first fight at the dragon. After losing 4 players, they completely crumbled, and it was only a matter of time before Gen.G finished the game. Overall, this match is the most interesting so far in the LCK Cup 2025.
KT Rolster vs Hanwha Life Esports
The second map was even worse for KT Rolster. Viper and his Ashe, with a score of 12/0/9, left no chance at all on the map. Watching this game, it feels like the loss to Gen.G hurt HLE deeply; these are the same HLE who won LCK Summer 2024.
Team standings in the groups
Matches in this tournament are held between teams from opposite groups: "Baron" and "Elder." However, the earned points are counted within their respective groups. The tournament organizers aim to break the routine of professional tournaments this way.
LCK Cup 2025 is held in a group stage and playoff format with 10 participating teams divided into two groups. Each group consists of 5 teams, and the seeding was based on the results of the 2024 tournaments. A spot in the First Stand 2025 is up for grabs.
