FlyQuest post press conference: Overconfidence, offseason plans, and more

FlyQuest did not end the split in the way they would have hoped, with the reigning, and last, LCS champions faltering in the semi-finals to 100 Thieves in the first LTA Split 1 playoffs. This loss meant FlyQuest would not be representing the LTA at the first international event of the year, First Stand. Following the series, bo3.gg had the opportunity to sit in on the FlyQuest post-series press conference.

Busio says FlyQuest wasn’t on the same page against 100 Thieves

Sometimes it’s very easy for teams to overcomplicate situations when under immense amounts of stress in an elimination game. Small mistakes will likely mean you’re tournament is done and you’re going to be sitting at home for the next few weeks wondering what you could have done better. This seemed to be the case with FlyQuest according to Busio, who claimed the squad didn’t have the basics down that they normally had and were not on the same page, which is uncharacteristic of them. “ Just simple stuff I would say, when we’re playing together we’re always the better team, but in this series sometimes we just weren’t saying the simple stuff so we weren’t always on the same page,” said Busio.

Coach Nukeduck has never been a personality that shies away from criticizing his team, and himself when needed.  Nukeduck did not hold back on the problems his FlyQuest side faced when going up against 100 Thieves in the semi-finals of the LTA playoffs. “I think we are taking some things for granted in our gameplay and not paying as much attention to the detail as we should be doing. Maybe it’s because we really did well at worlds so we think we are just a little bit better than we are.” Complacency is not an uncommon trait amongst the top teams. When you are exposed to that level of success, sooner than later you’re bound to make mistakes along the way that prevents you from maintaining the excellent level you once showcased.

FlyQuest’s immediate plans

FlyQuest is not resting on their laurels as they are jetting off to Korea for a boot camp according to Massu. This is a good thing to hear if you’re a FlyQuest fan because it means they are looking to get the best practice in as possible during their offseason. And Korea makes sense because First stand will be in Korea, meaning they will get the opportunity to scrim against the best teams in the world and also the rest of the LCK and potentially LPL teams that are available to scrim. “We are just going to boot camp in Korea in the offseason and we hope we will come back better next split,” says Massu.

Fans will get the opportunity to see FlyQuest back in action when the LTA returns for more LTA North domestic regular season for the start of the Spring Split in April.
