Dplus KIA Concluded Their Run at Worlds 2024: ShowMaker on the Defeat and Team's Future Plans

After a disappointing defeat to Weibo Gaming, the team Dplus KIA, led by Heo "ShowMaker" Su, concluded their run at Worlds 2024. This was unexpected as Dplus KIA became the only eastern team to be eliminated from the tournament at this stage.

In an exclusive interview with Sheep Esports, ShowMaker shared his thoughts on this disappointing result and talked about the team's future plans. "I hoped for a much better result, but unfortunately, I disappointed once again. I feel like I didn't play well," noted ShowMaker.

Tough Defeat and Reasons for Failure

Dplus KIA started with two new rookies—Lucid and Moham, which led to some criticism after the match against Weibo. However, ShowMaker believes that nerves were not the key factor, as the rookies performed well considering their lack of experience in major tournaments. "We are not the type of players who get too nervous on stage, so I don't think it affected us too much. For a first World Championship, it's hard to perform exceptionally, and I think they did well under such circumstances," explained ShowMaker. However, he admits that the experienced players failed to support the rookies properly: "It’s more about us, the veterans, who couldn’t be good leaders for them; it's our fault."

Metagame and Challenges at the 2024 World Championship

Despite the difficulties with adapting to the Worlds meta, ShowMaker emphasizes that the team's main problem was poor execution and insufficient macro play. He acknowledged that the team understood the current picks well but could not execute them properly on stage. "We all know about the current meta picks, but I think it’s more about our level of execution and macro play. It's not because we didn’t have a good understanding of the meta, but because our gameplay was poor," commented ShowMaker. He also noted that this was the toughest moment in his career and that time and rest are needed to fully understand the situation. "Based on my experience, this moment is the hardest. Processing everything is very difficult. But over time, I think it will get better, and I will be able to see everything more positively. Time is the best healer," he shared.

What Awaits Dplus KIA in 2025?

Despite all the difficulties, ShowMaker remains positive about the next season. He believes that with a good rest, the team can come back stronger and make the necessary changes to improve their results. ShowMaker also shared his ambitions in League of Legends, comparing himself to Lionel Messi: "Messi is literally the GOAT, and I would like to become the same in League of Legends. But reaching such a level will be very difficult. If I can become someone akin to Messi, it will be a great honor."

Closing Words and Apologies to Fans

In conclusion, ShowMaker expressed deep apologies to the fans for the disappointment brought by the team and promised that if given another chance, the team will do everything possible to redeem themselves: "This year ends in failure for me, but I feel that I need to rest well to recharge for next year." Ending his statement at the World Championship, he also thanked all fans for their support and highlighted the importance of rest for recovery before the new season. "If I get another chance next year, I will do everything to fix this," he assured.
