G2 Esports became the first team eliminated from the Mid-Season Invitational 2025. The European team lost to FlyQuest with a score of 0:3, casting doubt on their international reputation. After the disastrous performance, top laner Sergen "BrokenBlade" Çelik gave an exclusive interview to Sheep Esports, admitting to mental exhaustion and explaining what went wrong for G2 at MSI.
Nobody expected such candor from one of the leaders of the European scene. BrokenBlade spoke about the loss of confidence, the tense atmosphere, and harsh self-criticism following the match against FURIA. His words provide a rare insight into the internal struggle of a professional player amid the team's failure.
Playoff Failure — G2 Without Titles for the First Time in a Long While
For G2, the tournament ended at the lower bracket stage — the team lost both of their bo5 series and exited the competition earlier than anyone else. The defeat by FlyQuest was unexpected, especially considering G2's confident form in the LEC. The team lost 0:3, failing to challenge the North American representatives.
BrokenBlade on the Reasons for the Failure and His Responsibility
After the defeat, the player admitted that the team looked uncertain from the start:
Many things just didn't work today — the moves we chose always left us vulnerable. Everything felt wrong. Getting knocked out like this, especially against North America, is a disgrace.
He also noted that G2 will have to accept a wave of criticism:
We just have to go home and come to terms with it. We will have to accept the hate, and it will be deserved. It's very sad not only to not bring home the trophy but also not to get far in an international tournament.
BrokenBlade emphasized that the match against FURIA was a turning point for him:
After the match with FURIA, my confidence was at zero. This usually doesn't happen to me. It's a new experience — I've never felt so broken. But then, thanks to the coaches, I recovered a bit.
Nevertheless, the player believes the team should use this experience as motivation for future tournaments:
We don't understand many fundamental things that cause us to lose in tense moments. This should be our motivation — especially ahead of EWC.

What's Next for G2 and the Player's Personal Reflections
BrokenBlade stressed that the team must properly process the lessons from MSI:
If we handle this defeat, you'll see a dominant G2. Not everyone gets the chance to gain such experience — games, scrims, atmosphere. It should help if we do everything right.
He also added that the result should not undermine confidence:
Confidence should be built on the work and hours you put into the game, not on the result. I'm sure I'll perform better in the next tournament. I'm ashamed of the match with FURIA, but I take it as a lesson.
G2 in Crisis Ahead of a Busy Season
The team is heading to the EWC, then the summer split of the LEC, and possibly Worlds 2025. A tight schedule lies ahead with no rest, making player recovery an especially pressing issue.
We haven't taken a single day off. In international tournaments, that's normal. But we have recovery specialists, and overall we're managing.
Gratitude to Fans and a Promise to Come Back Stronger
In conclusion, BrokenBlade reached out to the fans:
Thank you for your support during this difficult time. Your messages are very important — especially now. We will do everything to come back stronger and once again be the G2 you're proud of.
G2 ended the 2024 season with a victory in the LEC finals and started the new season successfully. However, at MSI 2025, the team faced a significant drop in form on the international stage for the first time. The next chance for redemption is the summer split and EWC.
The Mid-Season Invitational 2025 will run from June 27 to July 12 in Canada with a prize pool of $2,000,000. You can follow the news, schedule, and results of the tournament through this link.
