The 2024 League of Legends World Championship is over. Congratulations to T1 and also Faker for winning their fifth World Championship, continuining his legacy as the greatest of all time. As the dust settles on the O2 Arena, we wanted to share what the fan experience was like for those fortunate enough to get tickets to the biggest esports event on the planet.
Fanfest
As the thousands turned up, this was obviously going to be the biggest turnout for fanfest. The queues for each booth were around the corner, which included meet and greets, the Red Bull Gaming Sphere, and a chance to see the Summoners Cup in the new electric Mercedes Benz G Wagon. If you want to find out everything fanfest related, and if you want to attend one next year, we did a full rundown on what Riot did for the Worlds 2024 finals fanfest.
From inside the venue
For someone who has never been to a large-scale arena event outside of MSI 2023, there was an overhwhelming feeling that I had as I made my way to the press seating. I was honored enough to be one of the lucky media members that could watch from the venue, and I was not let down by the hospitality and the amazing view of the arena. The atmosphere was there from minute one, right all the way to when the final T1 question was asked onstage during their awards ceremony. The London crowd showcased that more esports events need to happen in the UK.
Heavy is the opening ceremony
Now I may be biased because I was in attendance, but the opening ceremony from start to finish was one of the better performances that Riot has put on for many years. Ashnikko, Mars Atlas of Forts & Tiffany Aris, and Linkin Park all put on an amazing performance. It took a while to get used to the noise level in the giant arena, it sounded like a rock concert, and you could feel every beat in your chest as the crowd cheered.
Silver scrapes
Finally, we were treated to an amazing best-of-five which saw T1 continue to make history, going back-to-back as they won their fifth World Championship. Again, I may be biased, but games four and five from Faker are two of the greatest solo performances I have seen in professional League of Legends. No other player would have driven his team to victory on that day, it was BLG's title to lose, and lose they did. On top of that, I got to witness the epic spectacle that is Silver Scrapes, the iconic game five hype music. It was an event to remember and I am thoroughly looking forward to attending next year's final.
