League of Legends: Best Champions to Duo With Caitlyn

If you're looking for an all-round great champion, who is a lane bully but also a late-game monster, then Caitlyn is your go-to ADC in League of Legends. With the correct partner, Caitlyn will just about win most match ups in League of Legends. There are plenty of Caitlyn synergies that will win you the game, but who is the best support for Caitlyn? Let's take a look.

Poke is the way to go

If you're looking for the best Caitlyn support synergy, we would highly recommend going with Lux.  Caitlyn paired with Lux is easily one of the best ADC support duos in the game, and one that normally wins the game by itself. Caitlyn and Lux are the poke demons, not allowing the enemy botlane to move from their tower as turret plates are taken very early into the game, as early as the first four minutes. If one of Caitlyn or Lux is able to stun their opponent, they are essentially dead as the other champion will then use their stun, rooting them in place virtually until death.

Lux is one of the best supports for Caitlyn in League of Legends. Even if Lux gets the kills, both are great scaling champions and will be powerhouses come the late game. Let's take a look at how you build Lux, along with the optimal runes you need to play her as a support in League of Legends.

Best Lux Build for Support in League of Legends

As with every Lux build, you're going to want to go for burst damage. You're not really a support per se, just another carry that can do an insane amount of damage in a very quick time. Use this build to see why Lux is one of the better picks for Caitlyn:

  • Zaz'Zak's Realmspike
  • Luden's Companion
  • Sorcerer's Shoes
  • Mejai's Soulstealer
  • Stormsurge
  • Rabadons Deathcap

What Lux alternatives are there?

Of course, Lux is one of the more popular champions in League of Legends, so she isn't always going to be an option for your support. Therefore you need some great alternatives to give you a similar way of playing the lane while also being just as deadly in the teamfights. Let's walk you through a couple of other League of Legends champions you can play if Lux is picked or banned.

While Karma doesn't pack the same punch as Lux when it comes to locking down opponents and bursting them in a single move, she is a great poke champion to use in League of Legends. According to League of Legends stats site u.gg, Karma is the second most used support with Caitlyn in League of Legends. She can poke an insane amount while providing shields for Cait that speed her up. In some ways, this is a better option than Lux as she can get Caitlyn out of tricky engages.

This option differs from the AP threat of Lux and Karma, and focusses more on controlling the lane through positioning and power. Thresh is the third best option to play with Caitlyn in League of Legends. A great Lux will win you the lane, but a great Thresh will win you the game. Thresh has a lot of lane control, and when paired with a lane bully like Caitlyn, who can stop this duo? If Thresh lands a hook, Caitlyn can immediately put down a trap, which will virtually guarantee a kill.

But what about counters?

If you're looking the optimal Caitlyn support counters, then we highly advise getting an engage support that can disrupt her from her normal lane bullying shenanigans. Blitzcrank does this job tremendously. Despite her prowess in lane, Caitlyn is a clunky ADC early on, she isn't great until she starts getting some attack speed to help with her farming, so before that she can't really cause too many problems unless the support also has a lot of poke.

Another great support that you can pick to counter Caitlyn is Nautilus. This is probably the better option for stopping Caitlyn if you're not a confident Blitzcrank player. His hook hitbok is more forgiving, and he has the ability of rooting Caitlyn in place with a flash + auto attack combination. On top of that, his ultimate will knock her up into the air, leaving her vulnerable. And Nautilus also does a lot of damage early on, especially if he has ignite. As mentioned, Caitlyn isn't the easiest to pilot in the early game, so an aggressive support pick to force her back will be the best way to go.
