The author of the most popular Dota 2 guides, Torte de Lini, has released a selection of the best heroes for patch 7.39c. The list includes three characters for each role, from carry to supports. Thousands of players use his guides, so these recommendations are worth considering—they reflect the real public game meta.
Carry
- Ursa — the true king of the lane in this patch. He excels against most offlaners like Axe, Mars, or Legion Commander. Thanks to the Grudge Bearer aspect, Ursa quickly deals with any hero who dares to stand in his way.
- Juggernaut — has become dangerous from an early level: Blade Fury received a buff, and the Blade Form aspect allows him to land critical hits while spinning. Fast farming and aggression are key reasons for his popularity.
- Drow Ranger — one of the few carries capable of setting the pace right from the lane. Slowdowns from Frost Arrows, multishots, and a strong start make her formidable against offlaners like Centaur and Dawn Breaker.
Mid
- Queen of Pain — is back in the game, this time with the Bondage aspect. Instead of the classic Dagon, she increasingly opts for Blade Mail and literally jumps into fights as a semi-tank. Three points in Shadow Strike, and the opponent can't withstand the pressure.
- Puck — despite rare changes, remains one of the most versatile midlaners. Mobility, control, high base intelligence, and the usual Witch Blade build still work effectively.
- Invoker — after changes, Exort now provides more damage, and the duration of spirit summons has increased. This means a powerful lane, quick Midas, and transition to Aghanim’s. Even after Cataclysm nerfs, he's still in the meta.

Topson Hints at Return to Professional Dota 2
Offlane
- Lycan — consistently strong due to pressure through summoned creatures. He easily pushes lanes, forcing enemies to constantly divert attention to tower defense.
- Legion Commander — a reliable choice for control and pressure on the map. Stonewall Plate aspect, Blade Mail, and then Blink—duels are won one after another. Pairs well with heroes that provide additional chain damage.
- Dawnbreaker — returns to the meta thanks to a strong global ultimate and a build through Blade Mail + Aghanim’s. She jumps into the fight right after an ally's initiation and disrupts the battle with her AOE damage and healing.
Supports
- Spirit Breaker — mobility across the map, annoying control, and the Bull Rush aspect make him ideal for aggressive plays. Effective against heroes with long casts, such as Storm or Juggernaut.
- Shadow Shaman — old school still works. Massive damage to structures, strong control, and with the Chicken Fingers aspect, he auto-hexes every 15 seconds. In skilled hands, he becomes a walking threat.
- Nature’s Prophet — dominates the lane, quickly gathers Urn, and participates in ganks across the map. Soothing Saplings aspect provides health regeneration through trees, and global mobility makes him a key element of midgame pressure.
For over ten years, Torte de Lini has been publishing guides focused on public games. His selections are traditionally considered indicators of the current meta, especially at high ranks. Patch 7.39c introduced several hero balance changes, and the list reflects those who have best adapted to the new realities.
